I have heard once, that the two Mercedes 300 SLR Uhlenhaut Coupé which are both owned by Mercedes, are insured for 50 million Dollar each. But I guess the 300 SLR who won the 1955 Mille Miglia driven by Stirling Moss #722 is the Mercedes which would achieve the highest auction price of all Mercedes Benz cars.

722 is the start time, NOT the chassis number.

That's one of the Uhlenhaut Coupes. The 300SLR above looks like a replicar to me...

Well, YOU could wish for that.

Most of us though wouldn't get that far in our thoughts!

-1 who cares about how much these cars are sold for? I certainly don't, it is their history that matters and for the most significqnt cars you can't put a value on that.

-Napolis: good morning, surely you meant provenance not providence:)?

    Best regards,

    Marc

    Hey

    Correct.

I agree that using them well, conserving them, letting others see them, and passing them on to someone who will repeat the cycle is much more interesting than thinking/worrying about what they may or may not be worth.

    Cheers

    Two Uhlenhaut Coupes?

I'm sure, there is only one orginal 300 SLR Uhlenhaut Coupe (Orginal ex-Uhlenhaut car - Owner is Mercedes Benz). Everythig else is a replica.

There are definetely two. One with red interior (chassis 000 08/55) which was Uhlenhauts personal car and one with blue interior.

Sadly, sometimes cherished cars need to be sold to pay for healthcare, duties, marital settlements etc and sometimes they get " traded in" or swapped for the "next step on the ladder"- but if the financial pressure isn't "on", isn't it a shame when a car which is part of a family's collecting history (and maybe something which bonds generations together)sold?

Mr Violati's potential sale is not the only one....in 4 weeks time one of the most original remaining Jaguar D Types will come to the market in the UK, for the first time in almost 35 years in 1 family's ownership, when its sold at Bonhams Goodwood Festival of Speed...

We've had a 330GT MK2 for 24 yrs - a car I've grown up with......many other classics have come and gone, but this car has brought us together as a family and been a catalyst to making many friends across the Ferrari world, who share a comparable passion......isn't that what it's really all about?

I can relate; I bought my Healey thirty (30) years ago this past April.

If only I'd bought a $24,000.00 GTO instead (head in hands...).

Incidently, Sid Colberg was lamenting at that same time, about NOT buying the GTO when it was $8,500.00, as it was now (1978) worth $24k.

Screw the Particle Collider, we need a damn-accurate Crystal Ball ;)
