...you are at the movies, or anywhere, and you hear a guy saying his car cost like 100% more than it ever even could have?

Happened to me the other night; a guy that I have actually met at rallies was telling a group of kids what his car cost. Thing is, he upped it by about $45K. I was stunned! I was so caught off guard that the first thing I thought to do was just say, "Bull ****."

I did not however and my date and I just walked off. I told her though and she said that is one of the things that gives us a bad name.

The more I think about it the madder I get. Its a nice car by itself, why lie about it?

I think it is actually fun to tell people how little they cost! Vast majority of people think that because it says "Ferrari", you automatically spent $100K+. When you tell people the car cost $35K, $45K, etc., they begin thinking about buying one themselves.

I often find myself adding a disclaimer once people find out I have a ferrari. "Yeah, a ferrari, but it only cost about the same as your Tahoe..."

If the guy's an arrogant POS, I'd put him in his place. Otherwise I'd just realize he's not the type to hang around with, and move on to other friends.

I agree 100% with Greg and Tom. I've been fortunate in my experiences with Ferrari ownership, and I like to explain to people (who question the high price of a Ferrari) the total cost of ownership over 2, 3, 4 years based on the three F cars I have owned. I lost more on a new Ford Explorer in 3 years than all of the F cars together. That definitely shocks them.

Kind of sick that he lied to kids about his car. What does he get out of that?

When I had my TR I was filling up when a gentleman of color asked me if my car was the new Mustang(I guess the pony gave it away)
I smiled and said" Yup, how did you know. Most people don't know that much about cars"
He was all proud and smiled as he walked away.

I had to get a tow about 3 miles to my home a few weeks back when my fuel pump stopped working. After loading the car on the tow bed a guy walks up to me and said "hey.....can you settle a bet that I have with my wife?......she said its a kit car and I say its a Ferrari" I looked at the car for a second (trying to figure out why the heck someone could mistake it for a kit car), looked back at the man, then over to his wife sitting in a nearby car and said, pointing to his wife, "She wins!" He walked away clearly upset but actually believed me!
