John, I had a 550 and have a bit of seat time in the DB9. I think it compares better with the 575 but is much more modern. Same wonderful torque, and similar handling I would say.
I have an AMV8 and love the car. Much better service for the AM imo. Both great cars but I would think the AM a bit easier to use as a daily. People seem curious and complimentary about the aston, whereas some people seem to have an attitude about Ferrari's and thats not good for daily driving/parking situations.

    I had and still have a 2004 575 F1, and had a 2007 DB9 for several months last year.

    Both great cars.

The Ferrari is much faster/stronger, and rides much stiffer. Much more fun and engaging to drive. I clearly preferred it as I still have the 575, but sold the DB9.
I love the modern classic look and feel of the 575. I consider it to be a sports car for grown ups, for special occasions.

The DB9 was astinishingly beautiful - a work of art. Exquisitely finished. Drove very well, and was much easier to drive on a regular basis. I took it to work on a regular basis. (Never taken the 575 to work). Reliability on the 2007 model was fine - no issues at all during the time I had it. The auto transmission is excellent, but not as much fun as the 575. Power was sufficient, but again well down from the Ferrari. handling/ride was smoother/qieter. Engine sound better than Ferrari (amazingly!).

So as a gentleman's sports coupe, for regular use the DB9 is better. For outright "smiles on your face" the 575 is preferred.

Clarkson did a comparo between the DB9 and the 575 so you might want to check that out.
I think his summation was about the same as 575Joe.

It was Vanquish vs. 575 I think, and the conclusion was that the 575 was better in pretty much every way, but he would take the Vanquish for its character.

IIRC he loved the coupe DB9 but didn't like the DB9 Volante.

Thanks, My 550 is a Fiorano pkg model so it is pretty raw.

I love driving my 550 to work but it is very stiff.

I'd be interested as a DB9 Coupe (s pkg) would be ideal as a daily driver, and it is just beautiful.
