Hey Napolis: what is the worst part of owning such a vehicle ? I mean ... there must be a bad part about it .... care to tell us
Having to turn down the countless women who throw themselves at my feet when I drive her as I don't want to jeopardise 37 years of happy marriage...
The real answer is that anything published having to do with Pininfarina has to be vetted by them. Pininfarina is very keen on the company getting the cudos not any specific individual. I understand there were a number of people upset with the press coverage Jason received, much thanks to Jim, for the P4/5 as well as the Kalikow car. There was a period of openess starting with the Birdcage and ending with the 599 where the name of the designer no longer appears on the drawings Pininfarina releases.
He signs everything he designs... Cool! _J Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Interesting. Its sad that is how they operate. He is very tallented and IMO people should know his name. _J
That's a shame... I can understand very well that this must hurt, because designers put their heart and soul in their designs... Their reward is mostly in the credits they get. Unfortunately it happens more often. At Spyker it was forbidden for me as well to sign the sketches I made. I even did not get my own business card. In Holland we say: "Ere wie ere toekomt."
Yes, you're right! In the sketches on this website you can only see the PF logo. http://www.carbodydesign.com/archive/2007/02/21-maserati-granturismo/ I can't (actually I can, but don't want to) see why a simple (often unreadable) signature can't accompany the PF logo.
Why do PF and I guess Spyker from what you said, do this? Is it to give the appearance that the entire company drew up a sketch instead of one person if I'm reading all this correctly which is that one person sketched the 599 and also P4/5, do I have this right?
We must not forget that creating a car is teamwork and of course all credits for the overall result must go to the entire team. A sketch, however, is the very first original idea, penned on paper by one talented artist, which IMO should be signed by the artist himself just like a piece of art. A 3D rendering is something else, because that is mostly the result of teamwork and not an original artwork painted by one artist.
I can agree with that...and if I were you I would not be bothered too much if my name was not mentioned in connection to that em...car
Because in today's ultracompetitive environment, nobody wants to lose their primo talent. If everyone knows Designer X designed 1, 2, and 3 and they're all well-recieved and ultra-hot on the show circuit, other companies will try to hire him away. Keep the designer anonymous (or as anonymous as possible) and it's less of an threat.
At the same time that's exactly one of the reasons why designers leave any company on their own initiative...
Isn't it more a question of who now owns the copyright? PF own all intellectual material from their company, thus.
sorry about that on the P4/5 : other than cosmetics, or things he personally would like to 'fix' [nice cup holder etc.] there isn't much to improve upon. Changing the mechanics does not seem to be an option. Guess the cromatic changing engine cover might be too far fetched, and gain zero. PS: Seems after reading as much of this thread which is a huge enjoyment in every way, that although the story goes on, It might just be more fun to do another one-off. That California in my opinion needs, some, well PF fixin looking at the hind qtrs fwd. ~ok, sorry again, almost hijacked the thread, again.../ rik
jim, what type of watch are you wearing in this video? sorry to get off topic, but it looks like an old bubbleback
