    Hey Guys,

Looks like I may need to part with my 86 GTB. I will be moving out of the country and I don't see how I am going to be able to keep my car.

I would really appreciate your thoughts on what you feel the current market value is for my car. I know we have kicked around a number of different prices but I'd like to know what I should ask for my car given the current market conditions.

    86 GTB
    Red/Tan
    24,000 Miles
USA Car originally purchased from Symbolic in California.
    Complete records from day 1
Three owners, complete unmolested, garaged car
Original Paint -no chips or scratches, no rust, garage kept but driven to keep her in running condition.
30K Major in April 2005/ 3500 Miles ago.
    New clutch 200 miles ago.
Original Keys, All books and tools
    Original Interior -perfect
Am/Fm/CD system with upgraded amps under the seats and non obtrusive radio faceplate
Upsized Potenza Tires 1500 miles ago
Mille Miglia SS Exhaust 1500 miles ago
    Stiff second gear until warm

Appreciate your honest opinions. It took me 2 years to find this completely original car. Everything is perfect.

    cheers\

For $49,910 this week, had 24,000 miles. Tough market these days, lots of 355,456,tons of 308/328. Looks to me like only dealers are buying and no europeans yet despite 70% dollar devaluation. Not a good time to sell,TIME to BUY!

If it was an early TR, it might not be worth what a good 328 is.

$50K-$55K sounds right for a private sale, considering it's due for a major. For reference, a really nice '88 328 GTS red/tan with 21K miles just sold for $59K with a recent service, and last week I was offered a 328 GTB with about 11K miles for ~$60K (also due for a major).

One quick, nice thing you could do would be to get the Ferrari logo re-stenciled on the air filter cover, and pick up a coolant tank sticker from Ricambi for $10 or whatever it is.

It definitely is the time to buy, not to sell, but circumstances are what they are. Good luck.

328 is beginning to be worth than a TR. To my knowlege three 308's have sold and shipped out to Europe this month alone in the SE.

I would ask 60k and take 55k although I think a dealer would as more. A 328 GTB is a very desirible car.

Ask $59K, take $55K. You might need to wait for the right person to buy it but they won't mind paying that.

Great feedback...appreciate that the market has changed and this forum makes it easier to price. FYI, I have a friend that had an interest, but did not know what I should realisticly ask.

    BullFighter:

Yes, I know the stickers need replacement, That's the reason I made sure I removed the remnants of the previous. I actually have the air filter stencil, but did not get around to having a body shop putt it on but will do so.

    cheers,

Try not to sell yourself short on the price. Test the market and post what you really want for it. You may get that buyer who really wants your car. On the other hand, if you are looking for a quick sell, then price it lower.

Don't waste the time having someone local do the stenciling. Send it off to Italian Car Parts and let them do it. It's a very tricky job. Been there, done that.

    BTW, beautiful car!

I think that anything over $50k will take some time to complete a sale. If you have the time to wait for the right buyer it could work out but if not then $45-50k seems reasonable today. The market is very soft....there is a red/tan 550 Maranello (14k miles) for only $75k. The car has been on sale for months.

Most selling guides say GTBs are worth 5% less than a GTS but I am not sure that is true. All you need is a purist type of buyer (like me) and you should be allright.

I thought that the GTBs were getting higher prices than the GTSs, not?

All true--I suppose it depends how long you want to wait. I am 6' tall and got scared out of buying a B.
If this car had come along at the right time I would have paid $55K for it.

...BTW, where is the red 550 for $75K ?

6' Is no problem in a B. I fit easily.

Myself and others have been tracking actual selling prices for years and can't find any statistical difference between B's and S's. I can tell you that B's are very easy to sell. I get unsolicited offers frequently due to the rarity. In the mid and late 90's, S's did sell for more and price guides continue with that bias.

Several people I talked to said that if you are 6' then you won't fit so don't even look
at the B's. I know now that was bad advice. I like the looks much better and I like
the rarity. But it is nice to be able to take the top off if you want. 6 of one... half
    dozen of the other...

I don't think he will have any more or less trouble selling it B vs. S.

I am 6'1, extra large frame, 13 wide feet, and I fit fine in my 308 GTB. Lots of leg room and about 1/2 inch of head room with the seat all the way back. You have to spend some time looking for the best seating arrangement. I was also scared before getting one but you should fit fine.

I'd think for this kind of car your need to sell would play a huge role. Seeing what similar(meaning 328's in general) are listing and selling for I'd think you could sell it fairly soon for $55K but given it's a GTB you could get $60K if you held out. Given the smaller numbers there may be individiuals that must have a GTB that's clean and low miles and be willing to pay anything but an unreasonable price. I'd think you could even get more if you waited a few years.

I was interested in that car--I think they've had it for a few months. They initially quoted me $59K so it
looks like they've since dropped the price. If it is the car I was looking at, I think it is due for a major service.

Sorry, what I meant to YELL was that your car is NOT DUE FOR A MAJOR if it was just done 3-years ago. This whole 3-years between major sevices is just ribbish.

328 majors are every 30,000 miles or every 5 years.
