Heading on vacation in a couple weeks, conference at Cape Cod. Planned to spend 3 days in Boston, 4 in Cape Cod. Didn't realize that the airport was 2 hours away!!! Heck of a long drive, not too happy about that.

Whats a good place to stay in Boston? Downtown hotels are $400/night. If I stay by Harvard, its $150. We hoped to walk around through the historic districts. Any advise appreciated, I haven't been to Boston in decades.

What might my wife and kids want to see?

Any advise about Cape Cod? Places to go?

Should I rent a car? Take shuttles?

Car rental (minivan) seems quite expensive at $600-700 or more. You would think that with tourism being down so would rates...

I have to book a Boston Hotel today, so any help really is appreciated...

Just plan for a lot of traffic. Wife's family has a house on the Cape and the traffic is murder getting on and off the Cape on Sundays. Plan extra time for the airport ride. I like Old Silver beach, especially if you have small kids. Water is warmer than Atlantic side and not very big waves. If you want waves, go to Naussett Beach on the Atlantic side. Water is cold. Eat at Sea Food Sam's and Sandwich Ice Cream Shoppe. Also, if you are a baseball fan, go to the Cape Cod league games. We support Wareham Gatemen. My daughters are heading out Saturday. Have a great time.

Old Silver beach is really, when you enter the cape by the bridge, go around the Rotary and head south till you hit it.

Haynes is really cool for shopping. If all else fails, head to the vineyard.

The cape has lots of beautiful unspoiled beeches. Lighthouses are kind of cool also. Province Town is nice great places to eat. The gay lifestyle there can be overwhelming. There are gay flags everywhere, male nudes displayed in stores etc.

Cape Cod has some of the nicest unspoiled beaches on the East Coast. Bayside has warmer water. There's no way you're going into the ocean side water this time of year.

The dune tours out of Provincetown into the National Seashore there are great if you have the kids along. Provincetown itslef is a quaint town, but is a gay stronghold with all of the "fun" that goes along with it. If you decide to hit a bar, choose carefully. :D

Martha's Vinyard is a fairly short Ferry Ride from the Cape (Woods Hole maybe?) If you want to take your car, make a reservation now.

I can't remember exactly, but I think there's a decent golf course out there somewhere too.

I spent most of my time on the outer cape, so I can't really help with Hyannis and the like, but Welfleet, Truro and on out to Provincetown offer good restaurants and some nice beaches.

It's been a few years since I was there (maybe 5 or 6) but there isn't another beach on the east coast I'd rather visit. About an hour drive from one end of the cape to the other if you get lucky with the traffic.

Just drag your butt out on Route 6 and look for interesting stuff.

bizarre, im five minutes away from old silver right now in North Falmouth. Small world. Heading back to Charlotte tomorrow though.

Either way, Cape Cod is all about relaxation. To be honest, there really isnt anything super special, its nice beaches, pretty views, and a great place to take some time off. If your in Falmouth stop at the chocolate emporium and get some fudge. its amazing.
