    Hi Gang:

I have always wanted a 308. My only problem is that I do not have a garage to store the car in at home during the spring and summer months. I have front yard parking on my property, but nothing covered. I have been told that it is a very bad idea not to put this car in a garage. Of course I would store the car during the winter months.

I really want the car, it's been a dream of mine. Is there a really good cover you could recommend I use? Would having it rust sprayed a couple times a year help? Do any of you have experience with this car in this situation? I am not nuts about storing it in a garage off site as this kind of takes the fun out of it.

    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Thank you, Glenn

if it was me i would absolutely not store it outside or under a cover outside in any way shape or form. your best option is to either ask a friend or family member to borrow or pay to rent their garage if not in use. or to store the car in a public storage place and drive it on those nice days.

my car sat outside for quite awhile before the owner decided to sell it. she really caused me and the car a lot of long hours in the garage reversing what sitting outside can do.

ahhhh i totally forgot about the portable garages that have tarp roofs and walls. it could work as in the pic above, but add walls and a door. they are available. personally i would still not use one due to the excessive moisture you would still be subjecting the car to.

Hows about a portable garage otherwise known as an enclosed trailer. Seems relatively cheap, more durable than other portables, and provides added benefit of transportation to and from long distance events. Frankly, I wish I had one

Since your profile is blank, it's hard to give advice as where you live could affect the suggestions.
Build a garage, or rent secured parking. Most areas have good options for safe parking, and building a good garage will be at least as much and maybe double the cost of a 308.

I had a friend who had a lambo, what he used was a one of those storage cargo units like you see on a overseas cargo ship,I think you can pick them up better cheap, and the car would be safe from thiefs

While I do agree it is a wise decision to build a garage first, it is not always feasible and expecially I would not be investing that kind of money in a home that I view as temporary. Not everybody is 50 years old and dead set on where they want to live the rest of their life...

Excuse me, but this isn't an ultra-rare collectible Ferrari in question. There is absolutely no reason it can't be stored outside under a cover.

Likely this will not be a DD for you. Another way to go is to rent garage space local to you....at one of those boat/rv storage places.

    Don't leave it outside though

sometimes to build a garage takes a ton of money, permits, space , and lots of time, How about a Enclosed trailer? or how about a ad I saw , They have a thing called a Car Capsule, they say they make them for outside storage as well as inside storage. Those temporary shelters might wreck your car when the wind picks up quite a bit and the thing goes flying away and those metal poles go flying with it .anybody have a carcapsule ?

I have stored my 308 in a Costco tent (10' x 20') for a few years, works pretty good.
You HAVE to bolt it down and you have to open it up whenever there's temperature
change because condensation can be a problem, also it is not sealed at the bottom
so rain water can run through.
I paid $160, amazing price for what you get, and my friend just told me they are on sale (?)

To you it may seem odd but what about the people walking by the car? We've all heard the stories about keying and throwing milk shakes in sun roofs. I vote for taking the car out of the sun and the "tent shelter" seems to fit the bill.

Well, if it's on private property which is the case, it shouldn't be a problem. Maybe there are some uncommon cases of vandalism, but generally speaking, no one is going to go crazy unless the car is on the street. I simply don't think those minor scares should deter him from picking up his dream. OK, someone throws a milkshake. Unlikely scenario in itself, but is that enough of a reason for you to not buy the car you love?

That tent idea you have may work very well. Any extra layer of protection helps.

    I

I'm almost 60, have no idea where I will be living in a couple of years, and have a 1988 3.2 Mondial that lives outside and gets driven almost every day of the year. I have a super car cover that I keep washed regularly so it doesn't scratch the paint.

If you can afford to pay cash for a 308, then buy it - drive it, and don't worry about the rest.

It's not going to appreciate over time, but so what. That better not be the reason you want one.

    Good Luck!

    And fill out your profile.

    Hi Gang:

Thank you all very much for your replies. I appreciate it.

I know a garage is my best bet. When we purchased our house it was one the compromises we made. (yes, a mistake, my bad) The city will not allow for any kind of structure on my property, I suppose to maintain the aesthetics in the neighborhood. Probably wouldn't go over to well with the neighbours either!

I am in the creative field and I might have to get creative. The thought of a retractable shell that closes in the middle of the night gets the creative juices flowing. Didn't Batman have something like that?

I guess if push comes to shove then I will have to get a garage somewhere, just seems to take the spontaneity out of it.

I guess my only other option is to move or be content with the 1/18 scale model I have of a 308 . Convincing my wife to move will be more difficult than buying the car.

rfking , I like your outlook. Life can be short. Appreciation is not my objective. I used to ride my bicycle to the Ferrari dealership when I was a kid, telling myself I'd own one one day. I kept the brochure for years. I think the sales guy gave it to me just to keep me off the lot.

    Thank you, Glenn

some insurance companies won't insure you if you don't have a garage. the enclosed trailer is the only answer to the no garage problem. a 22' model will give you plenty of room to move around the car. just drop the ramp and pull in. you're high and dry and locked down.
