dissapointed to see that the car was not in evo & octane's big 60 years of ferrari issue. It was a nicely done issue, the car would have fit into it well.
beautiful car. how much power does it make at the wheels? and how much does it weigh? Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Hello Jim, In the latest issue of Top Gear magazine it says that Ken Okuyama presided over the design of the P4/5. Is this correct? Best, Peter
Ken was Head of Design for PF at the time and he did show up occasionally. The main designer was Jason. Paolo ran the Special Projects Team. Andrea was involved as well as were MANY talented people from the large Special Projects Team who shaped P 4/5 including a very talented engineering team. Sal had a LOT of input and I made final decisions. Ferrari was involved in her final name and some final details. Success has a lot of fathers (and Mothers) while failure is an orphan...
Jim, your car broke the rules in a lot of ways. But, to me, the most important is that you built a super car that weighs under 2,700 pounds. It seems that so few people realize how important weight is in a performance car. To put this in perspective, my new Miata weighs about 2,500 pounds, but it has only 179 HP. While my Miata is a hoot to drive, I can only imagine what 2,650 pounds, 600 HP, and big fat tires must be like. To use another example, a stock 599 is about 1,000 pounds heavier than your car. I hope Ferrari is paying attention because if they are going to sell a super car for over $1 million USD, they better make sure that it really is a super car. Dale
The strange thing to me is that some of these cars are really not as easy to drive on the street as they should be. The most important thing we did was to shorten the front over hang and make it possible to drive on the street without scraping the nose when you enter a driveway of encounter a speed bump. Best
Tru Dat. I have to be very careful pulling my 2006 C55 out of my driveway otherwise it will scrape the front splitter, (again, because my wife drives this car, it already looks like a refugee). My 2008 Miata? No problem. Just curious, though. I thought that front splitters and overhangs were necessary to keep a car from lifting at 160+ mph speeds. Did your aerodymanic studies disprove this theory? Dale
Look at our nose. We shortened the front overhang, rounded up the bottom for clearance and added a front wing higher up to create down force. We make 2 times the Enzo's down force.
Now if only there were twice as many P 4/5 scale models as there were Enzos, we'd be in good shape... Joking aside, any updates on the model licensing front?
"very high" I'm sure! Always love the image of the fox getting sucked off the track. Based on upgraded downforce elements, how much quicker around Fiorano would P4/5 be than an Enzo? Any estimate in seconds? _J
that would be interesting run P4/5 on Fiorano with the same driver that set the fast time in the Enzo and see what happens. I'm sure a computer simulation has already been done, but I just think that would be really cool considering the engine retains the stock Enzo tuning. Jim do you think you would ever mess with the engine? The suspension is stock Enzo right? I know it has a bigger tire but thats it or is there something else?
Hi The chassis has been stiffened which makes a difference and she's lighter which makes a difference as well. The motor will remain totally stock as will emissions systems to keep her world wide legal.
oh yea I forgot about emissions compliance, smart idea. Any info about what I asked regarding Fiorano?
You know. It would be really cool to see some side-by-side shots of your car and an Enzo. If I knew how to do Photoshop or whatever, I guess that I could do this, but I don't. But they would still be cool pics (hint-hint). Dale
Yes P4/5 sat beside an Enzo would be nice for comparison, as would some photos beside a McLaren F1. Maybe a silver one, or a titanium one, or that white one. I hear there's an orange one in the neighborhood occasionally as well. Anyway, thanks for continuing to share Jim. I too enjoy seeing this thread title in bold. >8^) ER
