I don't see him doing anything great at Valencia or Singapore, those are city tracks.

He would win Interlagos (to quote him: "That's for sure."), but they won't let him.

Hockenheim is an option and even Monza.

 

Actually he spun many, many times in the rain of Fuji. Went off track several times. As did Kimi and many others.

Please quit quoting the Fuji duell with Kubica as proof of his abilities in the wet: At that point he had nothing to loose anymore, no pressure and they touched wheels and went off the track several times, but were saved by all the run off areas plastered with concrete. It was very exciting but you can't compare that to e.g. what Hami did in Silverstone: Resisting all the temptations and the pressure and drive it home in the rain without a mistake and lapping almost the entire field. That's a rain master.

Massa has gotten better in the rain as we have seen in other races this year where he managed to stay on track. So he isn't that hopeless anymore, but you can't really use Fuji as proof positive. Obviously he totally sucked in Silverstone, but I'm willing to put that down to screwed up setup. He is no rain master, but he is better than his drive at Silverstone.

agreed on this one. but, i was reading the other day, that Hammi's drive was one of the best wet races performance. i can't agree more.

 

Right on. Roger Benoit just added it to the all time best ever drives in the rain. Hami's drive was #6. #5 was Schumacher 96 in Barcelona and #4 was Senna in Donington.

Quite frankly after I watched that video of a very young Hamilton racing a gokart in the rain outdriving everybody else, it was a bit of a given to me that he would be good in the wet. Fuji 07 prooved that point. Silverstone 08 was a warning to the rest of the field.

 

i was sitting watching the race thinking of exactly the same video.

 

Hamilton drove a flawless run in the wet ... but that's a bit easier to do without pressure. Once Ferrari tanked Kimi's race with their tire selection, Lewis didn't have to worry about being pushed. He could run his own pace.

But he did hold it together (mostly) which is as good as anyone was doing out there.

F1 is a team sport, and Lewis and the team put together a winning race.

I was on about the LH vid in the gokarts mate, and how good he was in the wet, and how some were not...

I would have put Fangio in 57 beating the Ferrari's at the Ring for his final Championship in the Maserati up there.

 

Remember this list came from Roger. I don't think he was following F1 in the fifties.

 

okay...no wonder Tazio's win in Germany wasn't listed either.

 

Kimi was no slouch up until that ridiculous first stop tire choice. We may have been cheated out of one of the all time classic wet weather duels by that decision.

 

+1 others do have talent like Kimi. On full wets Rubens was quicker so whats the big deal. The tires have LOTS to do with this.

It can happen to the best of them.

 

And his own pace was 60 secs faster than anyone.
And it would have been 70 if not for Kovi's suicide pass at the start.
Hami had enough sense to let HK win that skirmish so he could go on to win the battle.
Once past he was 2 SECONDS !!!! faster each lap.

Everyone asks for a rain race to see who has the real talent. Not a deluge where pure luck reigns but a wet track with slight rain. This is what we got.

Can we finally put the question of his skills vs. car to bed ?
