I'm confused. There are about 20 different "Nuvis" currently available from Garmin. I want to buy one for my wife. She does not need anything that needs a subscription! (it appears the FM "traffic tie-up" warning system is a pay service?) She needs something that is simple, easy and can run on batteries and recharge later. She will travel only in the USA. It seen the 270 and 370 might fit the bill, but I can't even tell how they are different. The eBay prices are not much different until you get to the 600 series Nuvis. Any advice appreciated!
I have a Street Pilot in the Ferrari. (Well, on loan to my son the summer pizza delivery guy) works great, cheap, updates via PC but is a little slow to pick up satellites. It works as well as the fancy nav system in my Acura. No need to go over the top on this DD. DM Image Unavailable, Please Login
LOL I occasionally remind my wife of the argument she had with the nav system in my Mercedes wherein she swore that the nav system was wrong. Just to end the argument I listened to the wife. Her directions got us stuck in Friday night SF traffic and made us late by about an hour while the nav system would have gotten us there on time. I need to change the voice in the nav system to that of my old platoon sergeant rather than the polite woman.
You want to make sure to get one that says the street name and not just "turn left in 500 feet". You want turn left in 500 feet on South Street. Worth the trouble. DM
After a tiring afternoon of dodging patients and studing various web sites, I think the Nuvi 260W is the winner. Its around $270 at various places; anybody know a better deal?
Garmin Nuvi for wife? A Garmin Nuvi might make a fine wife. You can turn down the volume of a A Garmin Nuvi. A Garmin Nuvi will never ask you if it looks fat. A Garmin Nuvi wouldn't be jealous of other satnavs. A Garmin Nuvi has no mother in law to come stay with you. If you live in California, you might prefer a TomTom.
$264.99 at amazon with free shipping!!! http://www.amazon.com/Garmin-4-3-Inch-Widescreen-Portable-Navigator/dp/B0011ULQNI/ref=pd_bbs_sr_6?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1215820113&sr=8-6
Nice choice, but consider getting her an iphone with built in GPS? Low price, came out today I think.
