Hi guys: Sorry if I have been a real pain for the past few days. I am almost ready to buy the car listed below http://www.sportscarshop.com/cgi-bin/k9bytes.pl?command=showcar&id=520 Is there anyone in the Eugene Oregon area that would be willing to look/drive this car and give me their opinion? I live in St. Paul Minnesota and its just not possible for me to fly out and check everything out at this time. Please let me know. Just got a case of a great spanish Roja that made me say "Wow". Will send a couple of bottles your way. RSS
It "looks" nice. Get the papers, talk to the dealers that did the service, ask if there has been paint, see if you can talk to the former owner. If you're still in love, get a PPI and then make an offer reflective of the condition and needed service (if any).
Let me know when you get her (if all works out well). I live in Woodbury and would love to touch base. Hopefully you can get her here for Wheels of Italy in August. Good luck.
I'd make the time to see the car in person. If I were just about to drop $150 large on a car, I'd want to spend considerable special time with the vehicle. I'd want to talk with the guy who did the PPI, bring the car to a body shop to make sure there's nothing lurking underneath the shinny paint. Specs sound nice (needs a challenge grill), but of course you need to make sure they did the Cam Variator service when they did the belt service. Having someone who knows about these cars see/drive the car is definitely a start, but I've seen a number of postings here where the sight-unseen car arrived in considerably worse condition than either the pictures or descriptions promised. Oh my! They do make it look lovely in those pictures though, don't they? Black on black is hot. I just realized I dont think I've ever seen that combo before. Methinks i like it.
You don't own a red 355, do you...Does Marsh Creek ring a bell? Can't wait to see your 430. Everybody else,...Thanks for the great suggestions. Please let me know what else to ask for. I will make the trip to Eugene if I can't find someone on the board to check it out for me. I have asked the dealer a number of questions suggested by this community and he said he would reply to all of them on Monday. Will keep everyone updated. RSS
Thanks, I'll do that. In the meantime, you might want to check out my post http://ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=205342 Have you had any experience with the dealer in Eugene, or even Tonkin in Portland?
I don't know of any dealer in Eugene, but I would guess that there must be some sort of shop there. I have had nothing but good experiences with Ron Tonkin Gran Turismo the last few years. The service manager there, Kelly, is excellent.
I would get a full PPI at Ron Tonkin in Portland. It will run about $800 but you will know what you are looking at. Even if the car is perfect the price seems high to me for a 2001.
You might also consider Grand Prix Imports in Wilsonville. Quite a bit closer to Eugene than Tonkin. I haven't used them, but lots of people in the northwest section have.
