The Boxer In Toronto

Left GDC at a little after 5AM, fueled up and on Rt. 80 W by 5:20.
First pic and most important pic: Car made it. 854KM -- that's almost 530 miles. And average 17 mpg. Two rest/coffee stops included and we got there at 1:50. How do we know? Because the clock works.

8 Boxers at the FCA meet. Met Dave Bendl and Paul Newman, both great guys and fonts of Boxer knowledge. My car looks great and runs great but under the careful scrutiny of none other than Dick Fritz, head judge for the Boxer class, it turns out I have a host of non-originalities that knocked me out of running for Platinum. There's still the run tomorrow and the track on Sat and Sun morning.

1. Yep, there were other cars there besides the Boxers. Even NEW ones! I'm saving the Mondial pics for a special post for Sam.
2,3. One guy had SIX cars there. Here are two of them.
4. The RCMP livery is almost the same as Scuderia Ferrari. They heard prancing horses would be there and...well...

Back in NYC. Put 1900KM on the car in 5 days. No parts fell off the car, no oil leaks, temp never went past midgauge, A/C blew so cold that the evaporator froze up. Great drives to the wine country and an unexpected jaunt to Niagra Falls, but the highlight of the trip was running the Boxer at Mosport. Here are two nice photos that a friend took on the front straight.

As promised.
The red one is a Mondial t Coupe US spec with Penn plates. There were only 42 such cars imported to North America (originally) and few were federalized later on, making it the rarest non-vintage car at the event. This example was, um, "tired." Note the front air dam is missing and there is big gash forward of the left headlamp.
The white one actually won an award: Best Unrestored Car Built Before 1990. I have never seen a Mondi win an award for anything; this was quite a shock.

Ah yes. But I suspect it was underinflated from the start of the trip. It held pressure all day Sat and Sun AM at Mosport.

It was a pleasure meeting you and your wife and many others from Ontario and Montreal and Quebec. We enjoyed ourselves thoroughly and now I need a vacation from my vacation.
