    Guys,

The car is a coupe, not a wide body, and seems to be completely original.
Is this a good car to track? The car is in good condition, with about 100,000 miles on it.
    Any info is appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Jim

a great and challenging car to track. getting harder to find good examples of the 84-89 carreras these days...it has been driving the price up lately.

the g50 trans is the only big deal, they made a few more tweaks on the 89, but i love the 84-89 911's coupes. my 89 is a black metallic 25th anniversary, and it runs like a top.

The chain tensioners (if I could remember correctly) had some issues worthy of being investigated but other than that, I have seen a few examples with more than 250k's and running like it was brand new! Oil leaks are also common amongst air cooled boxer engines (even with the 3.2 motor).

The "whale tail" that you mentioned, is it a turbo tail or a carrera tail?

nope...not an issue on the 3.2...already updated. 3.2 is bullet proof like no other powerplant!!

    I'm pretty sure it's a carrera tail.

This dealer wants 15K for it, and offers a warranty. I think the price isn't bad at all. The body is straight, the back seats are a little dry, but no tears, or cracks.

I might be getting my engines mixed up. ;) I did remember having chain tensioner problems with my '84 Carrera but never with my '93 RS. Could be just one of those one in a million type things. :)

I'll try and take photos of the car tomorrow. The dealer told me the car has a rebuilt title, so I think I'm going to pass. They also don't have any service records, but the dealer is offering a warranty, and says the car has no issues.

Title issues are bad news. Sounds like a good car, but you don't want to deal with headaches for as long as you own the thing. Keep looking, and there's bound to be one out there.

Well, I'm going to pass. I test drove the car today, and I really didn't like the pendulum type handling this car has. You could really feel the rear weight bias on this car, and the fact that there just isn't enough weight up front just realy makes it worse, on top of the soft suspension.
Don't get me wrong, the car ran good, gearbox is nice, but it's just not what I'm looking for.

I took some pics of the car today, I'll try and post them later.

Well, at least it should not feel "rear-heavy", what with the flux capacitor and all...
