http://www.autocar.co.uk/News/NewsGallery.aspx?AR=233975&EL=-1&IM=182292 I am really really liking what I see so far. And that interior, wow! love it. Whats better is I think I will like it even more once I finally get to see one in real life, in person. And I think that will help some people who are on the fence as well. This will and should be a great middle car for Lotus and i think they hit the nail on the head with what they were targeting.
Seems like about 3 years ago they said the elise was going to have a re-do that looked similar to that. I wish it would have. Thats a great looking car.
I think I need to see that one in person. The back kind of reminds me of the RX-8. Interior is nice though.
I see Zagato and influences from their M250 concept car from a few years back, but not so much Gt-R.....
It actually has much more styling cues from their own concept car the M250 which was debuted years ago. So it takes a lot from that.
Maybe SRTMike is referring to the silver color, slightly raised spoiler and quad rear lights, with larger red circles on the outer edge... pics below for comparison... Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I like it but dont love it. I prefer the last gen Esprit. Looked more exotic. This looks a little japanese to my eye.
Same can be said for the Elise. I've like this car more and more the more I look at it (expect the rear end).
Sorry guys, I'm not feeling it. The Stevens' Esprit has been the highlight of Lotus styling so far. I'd much rather find a nice black S4 or V8.
What he said, although I'm not an Elise-hater. Admittedly I'm pre-judging from small photos, but my initial impression is that Lotus should have gone back to the Italians for help with this.
Good point, as others have said this thing looks very Jap'ish. Too much like Ginza at night, funky side slashes, kinda weird window treatment that makes it look odd. Shoulda gotten some real help, no excuse for this.
I'm seeing it in the roofline, which happens to be the part of the GTR that I think looks disproportionate and weird. I was exaggerating a bit in my post of course - the Lotus isn't ugly, but seems to be a mish-mash of parts of other cars. The front grille opening looks Ferrari. The front fenders up to the doors looks Ferrari 360 or Gallardo. The back end, the designers ran out of other cars to steal from so they just grafted on the ass end of an Elise! Here's what I mean about the GT-R - aren't the roofline and glass parts virtually identical? The rear light setup is similar too... the big outer round light and smaller inboard round light. I don't like the roofline the way it points up. Looks like a Stratos or Enzo. Front looks like a Tesla. I much prefer the curves of the Elise/Exige. I don't think this is necessarily a bad looking car, but its not eye-catching like a Vantage, Gallardo, or 430. It looks toned down a bit. I am anxious to see how it performs though. It would be great to see this give the GTR competition, but im not holding my breath.
Definitely see it in the roofline. It's an awkward styling cue. I also see hints of the '70s "Mako Shark" Corvette in the roofline and side contours. Not a styling success, IMHO.
Dont like majority of it. Looking from the side, the rear half is lovely but everything else is quite cheap kitcar looking
This new Lotus is all new but styling wise based off of their concept car the M250 which debuted back in 1999.
Dang! Lots of hatin' here! Maybe I can get a discount when these things start piling up on the dealer's lots!
+1, except the rear isn't nice either. A generic, lacklustre mess. If it didn't have 'Lotus' hanging off it, no one would know it was alive.
