I totally understand now, and I understand and respect owners' concerns about exposure. I omit all licence plates using software to block them out.

I know other parts of FChat do not carry this policy as other areas will show plates etc. It think it got bad a while back when someones home and car were shown online exposing their location and resulting in harassment by curious onlookers.

What you really mean is... put down your espresso and newspaper, walk down College St back into your lonely apartment, fix the FChat problem, then walk back into the cafe and finish the espresso, chat with the patrons for 2 hours, then drive back to the office to finish your real "work". Then after work, head back to the cafe again for another espresso on the way back home.

 

I know other area's of fchat don't have this rule. In fact I don't think it's a an actual rule anywhere on fchat . This is just something we've kinda kept as a group rule in the past. Consideration for owners by not posting plates etc. that's all it is.

Used Neon's are selling more than new Toyota's and GM's these days.......their monthly sales were down 20% last month! Sucks to be a GM dealer nowadays.

McCartney show hits sour note in Quebec

MONTREAL–It's hardly the British invasion of 1759 or the Beatles-led musical invasion of the 1960s, but Paul McCartney's concert in Quebec City is rankling some nationalists in the province.

Quebec painter Luc Archambault has written a five-page letter criticizing McCartney's imminent arrival in the city because of the star's British roots.

"His music isn't just music, it is also the lyrics, lyrics that are in English," said Archambault, who hopes to hand the ex-Beatle the letter in person before he takes the stage in front of an expected crowd of 200,000 on the Plains of Abraham on Sunday.

Parti Québécois culture critic Pierre Curzi is another who believes this is one magical mystery tour McCartney shouldn't be on.

"I like Paul McCartney but, given the context, this is the straw that breaks the camel's back," said Curzi, referring to what he called the "Canadianization" of Quebec City's 400th birthday celebrations.

Premier Jean Charest called their position embarrassing and said those opposed to the ex-Beatle's show should just let it be.

"Relax, have a good time," Charest said in Quebec City. "If Paul McCartney can have a good time here, so can you."

The premier said the celebrations are meant to be an opportunity for people to come from all over the world to enjoy the party.

"Nobody criticizes Céline Dion for singing in Paris, in Munich, in England or anywhere else around the world," he said.

Two Quebec singers who have been invited to open for McCartney also distanced themselves from the politically tinged arguments.

"We should be proud because the Beatles are a huge part of history," said Pascale Picard, who precedes McCartney's act.

The other act Sunday will be the Stills, a Montreal rock band that also got the nod from McCartney.

Singer and guitarist Tim Fletcher said the superstar's Liverpool roots shouldn't prevent him from playing in a French-speaking city.

"Sure, he's an English guy but he's brought a lot of joy, and the Beatles have brought a lot of joy, into people's lives," Fletcher said.

Yes, the separatists (or other political Sh#tdisturbers) are having a field day with the 400th anniversary celebrations.

But we all know....there are @$$holes all over the world....

It's about the same as condemning all of the UK because of a few "soccer hooligans" (there are probably more of these in the world than "extremist separatist" Quebeckers)...

The fact that this was actually such a large issue the Premier had to speak out against it is appauling.

I always thought you'd have to travel the world far and wide before you'd find anyone that could be against a Paul McCartney concert. Apparantly you don't have to travel that far.

If Canada didn't have Quebec dragging it down, then Canada would be a top 10 world country.

Its comments like this that make them look stupid and arrogant to the rest of the world.


Quebecers only like listening to Roch Voisine, and Celine Dion..........they should open up to other musical interests.

 

Apparently (from what I am hearing in the office) they (the few hardcore separatists) don't like Paul too much because he was parading around on the ice as part of a protest against the seal hunt not too long ago...

Most French Canadians agree with me when I say that only uneducated, insecure individuals with a huge inferiority complex would try to make a political issue out of a public event such as this one.

Seems as though McCartney is bending over backwards to appease the Quebecois. Maybe we should give Sir Paul citizenship for acting so Canadian!! lol

McCartney appeals for peace ahead of controversial Quebec City concert

MONTREAL - Ex-Beatle and perennial love-advocate Paul McCartney summoned Quebec nationalists on Thursday "to smoke the pipes of peace" over their opposition to his free concert this weekend.


Several artists and politicians have been questioning McCartney's participation in Quebec City's 400th anniversary celebration because of his British roots.

But McCartney told Radio-Canada he was unmoved by their claim his presence evokes painful memories of Britain's conquest of New France in 1760.

"I think it's time to smoke the pipes of peace and to just, you know, put away your hatchet because I think it's a show of friendship," he said.

McCartney appeared eager to deflate the political rhetoric that nationalists are trying to attach to Sunday's show on the Plains of Abraham, site of the pivotal 1759 battle between British General James Wolfe and France's Marquis Louis-Joseph de Montcalm.

"The kind of thing I read about in the schoolbooks when I was a kid was......who was General Wolfe?" he said jokingly. "I still haven't figured it out."

McCartney said he disagrees with the suggestion that he shouldn't play in Quebec City just because Wolfe's troops happened to defeat Montcalm's on the Plains.

"What, are you saying nobody but French people should play in Quebec?"

By that logic, he said, Britons and Germans should never visit each other's country because of the world wars.

"Hey, I'm friendly with German people," he said.

As the 400th-anniversary celebrations continue, nationalists in the province have been seizing on various elements they feel are either too federalist, too anglophone, or both.

The most recent controversy was kick-started earlier this week by Quebec painter Luc Archambault, who circulated a petition decrying the "dangerous" presence of music with English lyrics.

But Archambault's campaign appeared to lose momentum on Thursday as he backed down from the tempest he stirred.

"I greatly admire McCartney... and I am counting on him as a socially engaged artist to be receptive to my proposal," he said.

"My proposal is to inform about the situation in which we (francophones) live in Quebec."

He added he is not opposed to McCartney's concert itself, but said Quebec artists should be given the same amount of attention.

The Parti Quebecois' culture critic, who signed the petition, also distanced himself from earlier anti-McCartney comments.

Pierre Curzi issued a news release Thursday to say he too is a Beatles fan and only wanted to remind McCartney about the precarious state of the French language in Quebec.

"When you step on stage Sunday to celebrate this beautiful French city, remember with us that the language which gives it life is still fragile," Curzi said.

Archambault nevertheless stressed he wasn't moved by McCartney's appeal to cast politics aside.

"He was coached by the Quebec government, he was told what to answer," the painter said.

McCartney told Radio-Canada he has been working on expanding the few lines of French he used in the 1965 hit "Michelle."

"Naturally everyone speaks French," he said in French, momentarily disguising his Scouse accent.

The Liverpool native is expected to make use of his French, however limited, during the show. He also said he plans to spend part of the day seeing the city's sites.

"Come on Quebece-ins (Quebecers), love me baby," he said.

The open-air concert is McCartney's only scheduled appearance in North America this year and organizers are expecting a crowd of around 200,000.

"I would like people to say that was the best night of my life," McCartney said.

"I can say we've been rehearsing this all week and we've been having a great time with the band, so we're feeling good."

Your comment is just as narrowminded and unfounded as the ones made by the extremist separatists. As I said before, 90% of Canadians living in Quebec don't hink like they do. I just hope that 90% of the Canadian population elsewhere in Canada doesn't think the way you do, because it would mean that there are more biggotted extremists elsewhere in Canada than in Quebec!

BTW, did you ever think that perhaps the media is jumping on these stories (and making them so public and "important") intentionally and just for precisely this reason: To stir the pot...? The best weapon against these separtist idiots would be to ignore them...

 

Yes, I was trying to stir the pot with my comments. I am not that prejudiced against Quebecers. I just like to make some hard comments from time to time, to get the topic moving along.

I'm not at all prejudiced against Ontarians, Sakatchewanians, Prince Edward Islanders, British Columbians etc. etc. In fact, I'm not prejudiced against any CANADIAN unless he is a separatist moron or otherwise narrowminded and intellectually handicapped or shortsighted...Unfortunately, there are quite a few CANADIANS that fall into this category...
