Anyone spotted a 612 1-to-1 yet? I think the most obvious distinction over the previous 612 would be the glass roof-- same as the Sessanta. In fact, the entire car could be ordered to be the same as a Sessanta, only without the badge.
I have on order an 09 612. I should start specing in October there abouts...I will let you know about the program. I heard its gonna be very custom. I can do anything I want.
Spectacular car. Seems to be a bit snappier and handles FAR better than the standard 612. The electrochromatic roof I think is pretty romantic. A very nice upgrade from the standard 612, you won't be disappointed!
Except that more custom stuff you order more time it takes to get the car done. Ferrari is not famous for being in a hurry with custom specd cars.
I'm not sure you could really do that much more than you could on a 599, honestly. However, the cars are not being allocated to dealers any more unless there is a customer, so in that sense none of them are "dealer ordered" and thus are all specific to a certain customer.
I really am so excited. But everyone keeps telling me get a 599. To be honest...I really dont want a 2 seater. I had a 360 and my bro has a 430...I love them...but I get to drive a 612 all the time...kids, shopping, dinner, out and about...its so perfect. Yet everyone is telling me that by 2010 it will be replaced...and blah blah.....i really dont seem to care. So as far as I am concerned....bring on the options list!!!!!
Hmm...that's interesting. As far as I know, the updated 612 should be out within a year, meaning that it is only half-way through its life. Do you have any other info?
Have no other info. My dealer says I am one of the first car in the region that will have the updates since its a 09 production. Cant wait.
I bet you can't!! Anyway, from what I understand the updated 612 will mark its midlife. So I honestly don't see (and never heard of) a replacement coming out in 2010.
I would go ahead and order one. By the time you order and get the updated one it will be updated again and so on.
So what is the update supposed to be? I thought, at least to some extent the OTO was the update, although I realize in fact it may be more like the 97 456GT.
three so far: one was displayed at Geneva Motor Show (by the Factory) second was on display at Essen's Techno Classica (by the Factory) third was offered for sale recently by Ferrari & Maserati of Newport Beach plus the 4th on the pic above. Did you have a chance to share the car's vin (maybe by pm?)? Matthias Urban www.vinbook.com
From what was said at Milan's dealership (it was more than 3 months ago...so it might be worth checking if there's any new info) the 612 should be getting a major midlife update (ala 456 M) late in 2008 or early in 2009. The update should mainly concern the engine as it should be getting DFI (direct fuel injection) and a fair share of extra torque & power. Some on this board went as far as speculating that it might get a modified version of the 599's engine...I don't know about that (but I surely wouldn't mind ). As a result I'd be extremely surprised to see the 612 getting replaced in 2010. Does anyone have any more detailed/updated info?
I really don't think the 612 will be going away any time soon. My wife & I were in Italy this June for vacation and stopped in Maranello - the way I understand it, Ferrari is incredibly proud of the 612 and really look at it as their flagship!
I agree with that said before. Probably the OTO (1 to 1) will be the equivalent to what was the Modificata for the 456. The 456 lasted from 1991 88301 (first, probably a prototype) to 133044 (last in my database, there might be cars being built afterwards). This reflects a building-period of 12 years, whilst the "normal" period for a F-Car is around 5 years. Matthias Urban www.vinbook.com
I'd be very surprised if there was an actual OTO for sale in the US! Although not too surprised that someone might be trolling for orders or customers... I'm guessing the one Townshend drove was one of the demo cars?
Correct, it's a car that FNA has currently. I've seen the car in press photos, so I presume it's made some auto show circuits? I can't imagine there's more than a couple demos out there in the wild. Sorry I didn't grab the VIN though
Beautiful car! Strange that the owner didn't go for the HGTC (or HGTS) package (the 612 sounds AMAZING with it). Challenge-style wheels would have been nice too (just a matter of taste of course). Simply stunning.
