    It appears that Ferrari had considered badging the car "288 GTO" even before production began as this test car carrying the "MO Prova.856" plate shows...

    At least they marked each car "288 GTO" discreetly on the steering column along with the chassis number. The GTO tells us what Ferrari's hopes for the car were...

    February 22, 1985, sold new through the French Ferrari importer, Charles Pozzi SA, to first owner, Jean Groslambert of Paris. In 1989 it was sold in Monte Carlo to an unknown person for 9.5 million French Francs. During 1995 offered for sale by dealer, Car Men, in Paris, France. October 1995 the odometer was showing 18,000 kms. April 1996 sold by Car Men through dealer, Uwe Meissner, of Modena Motorsport GmbH in Langenfeld, Germany, and broker, Steven Perry, of Hockenheim, Germany, to German F1 world champion, Michael Schumacher. Overhauled by the factory before delivered to Schumacher.
