I'm thinking of selling my 1975 Dino 308 GT4 #10636. I know a lot of you have followed the process of bringing her back from the dead. In a nut shell it has a complete engine rebuild, all new suspension rebuild, brake rebuild, new booster, electronic ignition, synchros in tranny are great. Caps and rotors are good, 328 16" rims just fitted this year with new rubber. All the hoses have been replaced, fuel tanks are good. Mechanically it's great! Rev's beautifully and shifts like a dream. On the down side the windshield has a crack, which I will replace. Also the fan blower motors are gone which I will also fix. It's also time for the major service next year which I could probably do also. So the question is...how much is it worth? I know dead cars on ebay are selling for under $20K. My idea was around $35K with the major done and the window and blowers fixed. What do you guys think?

if the interior is okay and you do everything you've offered to do, then your price is too low. any rust in the body, frame or supporting framework ?
how is the paint up close ? i wish i had known last week and i would have spent more time examining it.
i may have a customer that might be interested. my full resto project will be out of his price range.
are you moving into another Ferrari or getting out altogether ?

Hey Brett, The interior is okay. New carpet but not Wilton wool, leather was done by previous owner but it's all there. There is a bubble on the drivers side that was there when I bought the car and it hasn't gotten worse. I suppose that the bubble could be fixed and blown in. The paint was done by previous owner and it's also okay, yes there are some chips and scuffs. The emphasis was on it being mechanically perfect, which I believe it is as close as it will ever get! :D

Oh yeah, there is the typical "oil leak" from the cam gear gasket. Started leaking the day after we put on new gaskets! :) It will be fixed with the major service...

While I cannot comment on the values of GT4's, I can comment that mechanically this particular car is EXCELLENT. All of the details that eat TONS of money have been sorted and it is these details that are the hardest to sell to the uneducated buyer. All they see is shiny paint and plump seats. If you do sell Jay, hold out for someone who appreciates the mechanical condition of your car and is wise enough to look past the minor physical imperfections the car may have. Those are easy to fix compared to sorting a car mechanically. Another point in your favor is that the car has been driven a lot in the past few years. There is no dry rot on this car and all of the teething from a fresh restoration is done. Just get in and drive.

It will be hard to get Mondial 3.2 Cabriolet money for a GT4 regardless of condition. Not that a GT4 buyer wouldn't be better off buying your car over a low 20's example that's got issues, but the reality is you'll be hard pressed to find someone who will spend that much. My Lotus is the same. It's "worth" $25k but I will only get $13-15k and even then it will take time to find the right buyer.

Let me be the first to try to dull the negative and accentuate the positive! :D

I hope you get the highest possible price for your car, and I hope someone with the same enthusiasm you've shown in ownership steps up to buy it!

If someone is thinking about a GT4, one that is mechanically sorted is well worth the entry fee! These cars are just too much fun to drive and one that is sorted will give endless smiles!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The money on this car is good! Can't you see? To those who still want to downgrade the price of 308GT4s, I say, change is not only in the air but it is blowing through the market strongly now. 308GT4s have a classic look that more and more people nowadays really appreciate. They are a very clever design capturing 2+2 and mid engine in one go. They drive like a dream, arguably as good as any, better than most. So to those articles of 1972 describing them as ugly I say - HA! Look at them now. They were way ahead of their time but their time is now! They are still so very modern looking in a fashionably retro kind of way. They are maybe quirky to look at to some eyes but they are COOL! And to drive them, then or now - WOW! OK, so they are 30 or so years old... reality check... things wear out, etcetera, etcetera... BUT, if all those things have been refreshed, grab it while you can and get yourself one of the most enjoyable cars on the planet. Go for it!

Jay I dont understand you and this thread ?

Please tell me where you are going to find another ferrari for 35K that drives like yours ......... you putz...if you sell that car for that price, you wont get back in.....and you know that.

Its one of a handful of 308s with carbs that actually works perfectly....i think your making a mistake....even if you got 35 or 40.

Put down the bottle for a few days will ya.........you drunk.

Hey my profile says you're not here! :D

I understand what you're saying but lately I rarely have time to use the car and if things go according to plan I'd rather have a house in Italy then a Ferrari in the garage. If I get a decent price I will let it go, if not I'll ship it overseas...:)

I mirror Big Red's sentiments. How could you consider selling such a beauty - especially after all of the work you put into that car? Bring it with you to Italy - she'll be happy to be home.

Beautiful car Jay.Your suspension rebuild thread is what motivated me to do mine as well :D.Unfortunately bringing it to Italy would only mean that you will drive it even less with the cost of petrol there and registration and insurance costs

From what I remember the last bid was in the low 20's and the reserve wasn't met. I don't think it was as nice as yours though.

Agreed!!! Wasn't there someone listing their GT4 for $125k on ebay a few weeks ago??? I'd say Jays car should be worth more...

That said, I'm in the hold onto it group. I had the same thoughts about selling my car a few months ago. Wound up keeping it, and am glad that I did.

Good Luck either way. You've been an inspiration to us GT4 guys.

I agree $35K is low for the amount of work and the fact that all you have to do is turn the key, but I must be realistic. What do you guys think....ebay? I've already sold one car that way and it was painless. Or I could make twice as much by parting it out! :( (That will never happen!)

Post current engine and suspension pics then we can get a better idea of value. If it was all done 3-5 years ago with regular use even in the rain it wont look special anymore which of course effects value . An interior shot wouldnt hurt either.

....engine and suspension still look "special"...stored in a heated facility, all fasteners still have plating. Just a bit of road dust and oil from the previously mentioned leak. Don't have any pics of the interior other then the ones posted in the original thread on page 1 but if you're interested Paul I could go and take some pics :D.
