CSR 260 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f6hjM1VrElE The new R500 is probably even faster Caterhams are sold complete in the UK if you chose so
alright, now i must surrender. all along i assumed nissan gave ringer cars to the media and said topgear would come to the rescue and expose the fraud. i stand corrected. the gtr is one of the ultimate cars in the world. i got my gt3 last year but if i had to do it over now i would get the gtr and add an xke for similar $. amazing.
I don't really subscribe to the ringer theory but Nissan did supply the car to Top Gear, so it does not disprove anything. I have driven both the GT-R and a GT3 and given the choice, it wouldn't be the GT-R I would buy, it's more than just about the numbers.
FYI, all of the cars Top Gear tested were provided by their manufacturer. So I am not sure what you are trying to say...
Huh? I realize that, I work in the automotive media industry actually. 95spiderman said "i assumed nissan gave ringer cars to the media and said topgear would come to the rescue and expose the fraud. i stand corrected. the gtr is one of the ultimate cars in the world. " well since Nissan gave Top Gear a car out of the press pool too, how do we know that one was not a "ringer" as well? The point being that the results of the TG test don't disprove the so called "ringer" theory since the car was not a privately owned car. (and as noted, I don't believe that Nissan ever gave out ringers because if they did and got caught the resulting PR nightmare would be disastrous and not worth it)
Top Gear Skyline GTR versus Ferrari Old Top Gear with the first of the Skyline GTR's, the R32 (1989-1994):http://youtube.com/watch?v=7hPa2KEB4Sg&feature=related (Clarkson proclaims it's one of the best cars he's ever driven) Old Top Gear with F355(1994-1999):http://youtube.com/watch?v=KlSOFyVxYG0&feature=related (says since it's the best Ferrari, it's must be the best car in the world) "Japanese technowizardy versus Italian design flair" And yes, Top Gear does get many of it's test cars from it's viewers...I know of one person from another board who described handing over his keys to "the Stig" to test his car.
Top Gear did an episode on the Caterham, they just didn't Top Lap the car. My guess would be it would be somewhere around the Atom or better.
Looks like someone has already done an unofficial To Lap... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l220aFDPIEw
The episode was the one where they built a Caterham in one of their concocted races against The Stig, but it wasn't really a piece on the car. The video I linked shows a Cat doing a 1:17.4 which would be the third fastest around the track behind the Ascari and the Ultima GTR (which is also unofficial)
About time you said something that makes sense. However the same should be said about the SSC aero and its record of being the fastest "Production" car cause its not production in my opinion but a turnkey kitcar.
Turnkey kitcar. . . talk about an oxymoron The thing is about as production of a car as a Koenigsegg, Vector, Zonda, or Saleen. Considering they've only been around for about a year only having produced a handful of cars is pretty good.
Saw that. You would think that given how British Bias the TG team is they would have done a Top Lap of the Caterham by now.
Well put. I cannot explain this car (GT-R), physics should NOT allow it to do what it does. Electronic aids and dual clutch trannys (seriously, 20 milliseconds verses 100 milliseconds in shift time makes the GT-R THIS fast) shouldn't make up for 480HP and 3900LBS. Faster around any track than an ENZO? I don't get it, but I can't bring myself to believe Nissan is providing "ringer" cars to the media, that would be insane. Jimmy PS. That's not my real name, I'm still in hiding, trying to get the patent done on the 100MPG carb.
Type of track, torque curve, gearing, and traction (awd) maybe? I don't find it that hard to believe. The Enzo doesn't seem to have as many driver aides iirc.
so every car maker up to this point has missed this combo besides nissan? even other AWD cars cant keep up with it. porsches 911 and oh, that 640hp lambo...
Chassis developed by Lotus, no wonder it is so fast. Apparently their chassis technology is light years ahead of everyone else!
why is it that lotus are running around in 15 year old chassis? Why is it that hte "new lotus eagle" is just a lengthend existing (read "old" ) platform ? The Elise/ Exige are still tremendous performers.... both because of regidity, and low mass... etc. etc. etc. A formula that will work lap after lap after lap after lap
Everything I say makes sense, not my fault you and a few narrow minded haters/fanboys on here cant figure it out. lol
That doesn't add up. You can't change the laws of physics, and it seems to me that most of the people saying things like "its the technology" really do not understand the underlying things that go into making a car quick around a track. It also does not make sense that when other rags did tests (C&D I think did the GT-R vs ACR Viper vs. Z06) that the GT-R was tied for last. I honestly don't know what is going on - Nissan has a past history of providing ringer cars and BSing on the results. Is that going on again? Maybe - we shall see. Once the rags start testing with production US spec cars, we shall see. The production ZR-1's are just rolling out now. The production ACR's are just rolling out, and production US-spec GT-R's are just starting to flow into the USA. Until now we've seen Nissan sponsored times on the track and GM sponsored times. No doubt the GT-R vs. everything will be the subject of many tests to come. I would submit that Ferrari's engineers and other groups of engineers have a lot more experience producing superfast cars than Nissan does. It could be that they did what others never thought to do. Or maybe the car is a one-hit wonder and is only good for a lap or two before it goes in the crapper. Or maybe Nissan let their press cars be altered from production US-spec? Who knows. So far, something just doesn't add up. It seems the import crowd want so bad for this car to be all it's claimed to be and they seem to gloss over the real and relevant questions about how the times have been what they have, especially when other groups test the same cars and get vastly different results. We shall see. And FWIW, I have a GT-R on order with my local dealer. So it's not about hating on the car. I would like it to be as awesome as they say - it's AWD and will be a good in winter, and if it's as good as it's claimed it will be awesome on track days and with 4 seats, it's something you can actually use daily and park in town without worrying about it being vandalized. I really would like it to be all they say, but I still have a hard time buying it. We shall see in the coming months when all the mags do tests with *US-SPEC* production cars for all the major players. Until then, it's funny that most of the GT-R guys with the "LOL"ing probably have zero intention of ever getting a GT-R! "LOL"
