Hi everyone, first post, so hello to all.

An associate of mine in Dubai has offered me a great deal on his 2002 360 modena. I live in Dubai for most of the year for business but I want to bring the car back to the US with me when I come home. Does anyone have experience with this? What do I have to do to the car to get it to meet US standards? Anyone know of a good service?

You'd have to do a lot...I believe Dubai cars are "rest of the world" cars, not compliant with US FMVSS. You'd have to get a Registered Importer to modify it so it meets US standards for safety and emissions, and that process would probably wipe out your savings. Last I heard, it was about $30k for ordinary cars, $100k for exotics. Dunno what they would classify your 360 as.

Google Registered Importers and NHTSA and make some calls. There's an outfit in Maryland that specializes in Ferraris, but I can't recall their name offhand.

It's probably best to keep it and enjoy it in Dubai.

You can also import it into the US temporarily (up to one year at a time) without having to go through any conversion by having a non-immigrant friend bring it in. He would have to be the registered owner and enter the US on an F1, J1, H1 or L1 visa. Insurance and registration would have to be valid for the time period that it is in the US.

Google HS7 and temporary import. The insurance is the easy part. Convincing a friend to do this is the hard part...typically.

Good Deal = about $85,000 bucks. I cant find one for less than $110,000 anywhere else.

Anyway, thanks for the tips. I will check it out on google. I know many of the cars here in Dubai are "gulf spec" meaning their air conditioning and filtration are beefed up to handle the hot, dusty conditions. I'll probably just drive it for a year or so here and sell it again.

I think the cars delivered to Dubai are already US compliant. Not positive, but my 360 spider was originally a UAE delivery. There was no modification required, (this according to FoSD). Bets of luck, let us know what happens.

Yes, I believe that's true but unfortunately I don't have a source offhand.

If it isn't a US spec car personally I think it's too much of a hassle to get everything changed to US specs. When I moved from Dubai to Canada the cost of modifications and shipping came out to be way more expensive than buying a car here. (it wasn't an exotic).

Is it an "A" vined car? If the 8th spot in the vin is A then it is a US spec car.

I checked into importing a Ferrari a few years back. I can't remember which importer I contacted, but the quote was around $20,000 for the conversion. I just got offered a Euro 2002 360 in Saudia Arabia for $67k. It's really not worth it by the time you bring it here. It won't be worth what a US car is worth.

Hey thanks a lot! It has 37000 km on the clock and its in really nice shape. Im still working out the details but I'll be sure to post some picks when I finally have it in the garage. A quick newbie questionas I am new to the Ferrari scene. Some well placed investments have done well for me here in Dubai so I thought I would buy the dream car, but do you guys think thats a good price? Another guy on here says he found a euro 360 for $60,000 in Saudi. Should I hold out, keep looking? I was not born with money so naturally, I want to make smart deals.

Hmmm, I don't know if it will be worth all the trouble. It will probably take you more than 6 months on the paper work alone, which means you will eat the depreciation for minimum 6 months without having the car to drive. You will also need to spend significant time with the paperwork. In addition when you sell the car you won't be able to get the same money as an US Spec car. I think it will be easier and better to buy an US Spec car in the US - no wait, little paperwork, you can be thorough in checking the car, and you won't have any problem serviving the vehicle. Whatever saving from importing the Dubai Ferrari will likely be lost when you sell the car later on.
