(So much for the McLaren cheating theory-we shouldn't jump to conclusions. Yet)

The FIA has begun its annual routine random checks on all Formula One engines, with Mercedes-Benz the first manufacturer whose power unit will be examined.

Formula One's current regulations feature an engine freeze, which prevents manufacturers from making technical changes over the course of the season from the specification that is lodged with the FIA at the beginning of the year.

Part of the FIA's regulatory activities includes it conducting a random test on the engines of each of the six manufacturers, to check no modifications have been made.

That process began after Hockenheim, with Lewis Hamilton's engine being the first to be sealed by the FIA so its checks can be conducted. Inspection of other manufacturers' engines will take place over the remainder of the season.

Autosport.com understand that the engine checking process has begun a little later than normal this year because the FIA has introduced some more stringent testing apparatus into the procedure.

Oh, no, no, no... Don't you know they checked McLaren's engine because they're CHEATING not because it's normal to do so. Ron, you're such an idiot to believe something in Autosport of all racing publications. :p

Maybe they watched the video tape of the start at Hockenheim, where Hamilton burned out about 10 car lengths on everybody else? What I want to know is, if they are changing their test equipment now, how are they going to compare this new test against whatever they benchmarked for McL at the beginning of the season?

Before the race started I predicted that my feeling was Mclaren had improved there car maybe a touch better than Ferrari.
It came as no surpise to me to see LH shoot of at the start he is brillant at the start anyway. And I'm not surpised to read various reasons on here to why that is, but my feeling is, it's not such a big deal as yet!!, and to early to say there is underhand play at Mclaren. Is it unreasonable to suspect that Mclaren have hooked up a great car for the last race and without doubt have a great talent driving it making it look better than it is ? The season is not yet over and it can swing one way then the other ,at least it makes it interesting.

It makes sense for the FIA to start checking the fastest car, but it just seems like sour grapes, to me to jump on everything and accuse, however I understand most folks mistrust of Mclaren.

Could be something as simple as...'start with the winner of the last race'. I see no conspiracy here. Just FIA business. Id bet Mclaren checks out just fine along with every other team.
