Hello to everyone! this is my first post here, I have a Maranello 550, and I am located in a Tropical place at the middle of the planet earth (all year very I mean very hot !!!!) I am having trouble with overheating, and I start reading a lot all the coments here, (it help me a lot!),after many hours of reading I decide to upgrade my fans with spal 30102113 and 30102803 (one extreme performance 3000 cfm and the other high performance 2700 cfm) I take out the OEM fans today, measured the holes and the replacements fits exactly! and I also order a whole new set of temp sensors, and also a new thermostat, the only part I am missing is a smaller water pump pulley (I also take the OEM pulley today myself) does anyone had changed the water pump already??? how is the improvment...? it is posible to find the pulley already maked I mean aftermarket...?or do I have to get it customade by a metalshop..? if anyone did this upgrade already, and know where do I can buy the pulley and the belt I appreciated, thanks

I haven't done anything about it yet because it's intermittent--only hot days, only heavy traffic. Curious, though, why the two different fans?

Same problem with overheating in South Texas. Any suggestions appreciated. Cools right down once the air flow is there. Will run cooler at 140 in sixth than at 5500 in 2nd.

Hello friends, I have a factory and a Metallic department, I decide to make the pulley myself...! so my employee from metal department make the pulley, they make it on stainless stell...? it is 25% smaller, but 300% heavier...!I don't think weight will be an issue here, because the pulley is tensioned anyway so...... I am going to install it next week (I am waiting for the new spal fans..) and I will post the results on my temperature!!!!!!, the only issue now is that I have to buy a smaller belt, around 1 inch smaller in diameter.... will let you know the results, in the meantime I am ataching the pictures....

    Very nice work. :D:D

So.........in making a smaller waterpump pulley, you guys want the waterpump to spin faster?? Right? :):)

I am curious, if you make the waterpump spin faster, will the waterpump cavitate and cause worse overheating issues?
I have seen this before in Ford V8 race engines we have built in the past.

Also, that extra weight is probably not too good for the waterpump bearing. Can you make the pulley from aluminium? :):)

Again, VERY nice work. I am interested in how it will go for you. You may have a winner there that will solve the overheating issues for all your 550 'brothers' around the world. :):)

Regarding wait and pump bearings...I don't think it is a problem because the pulley is already tensioned with the belt...? so the lateral tension is a lot more force than the innercia or centrifugal force caused by the extra weight...sooooo........About Cavitation.... if you have the car revs at constant 7000 or tops revs, maybe it cavitates,...but thats not possible because at that revs. you will have other serious problems besides water pump.... simply physics

IMPORTANT I reduce the pulley and make it a 3" diameter (one inch less than OEM, the OEM is 4" in Diameter) the belt that fit to my new pulley is GoodYear model 5PK-1270 or 4050500 (I think it is 50.5"), (on the back says to use it for Mercedes Classe A 1.6 98....Alternator Belt)

WILL POST TEMP RESULTS NEXT WEEK

I guess we are still in a holding pattern waiting on the smaller pulley test results. I've never had good experience on that issue in any race engines that we tried to get to cool faster. We ALWAYS ended up adding more fluid capacity NOT fluid movement. General physics that normally get forgotten in the heat of the moment. (excuse the unintended pun) My 355 always had heating problems in the Middle East heat until I changed out both fans for Spal 30102803 and gained roughly 2000cfm of airflow AND run them both on separate mechanically adjustable thrmostats not this one controlled by this sensor and one controlled by this ECU box crap. Those Italian Engineers....almost as bad as the German Engineers when they try and get "fancy". The KISS principle in full effect here guys. Now I have no heating problems whatsoever. :) Shade Tree Mechanic 1....Italian Engineers 0. But then who's keeping score anyway?

Ok my friends finally after changing the hose below the intake (it brokes during a test...) I have tested the car !!!!!!!!!!!!

With all my mods on the coolant system: and the result.............

EXCELLENT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! the temp arrow is exactly in the middle 90 degrees !!!!!

Arrow only moves a little to the right if I drive the car hard, I mean very hard.......but it goes down after two or three minutes, to the middle again..... so for all the folks around there the pulley reduction works great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!,

the spal vents work great too,

(I also remove the thermostat...) I did it because I wanted, to first test the car without, before testing the new pulley, and the results where so great, that I am ging to leave it without the thermostat for now..... (remember I live on the tropic so I have 35 degrees all year long)

I drove the car very hard on highway (no speed limit here), then I make hard accelaration to 150 kms and then stops, again and again and imediatly get to the city for slow traffic, ant temp where ok....over 90 (between 90 and 130) and then goes down to 90 again....

feel free to ask any questions !!!!

    Very nice!

Any plans on making these out of aluminum to save some weight?
