    Well put.

I think those who suggest he is not an exceptionally talented driver tend to dislike him (which they are perfectly entitled to do) or are diehard Ferrari fans who don't like anyone challenging the supremacy of their team or drivers. They let those things get in the way of making a reasonably objective evaluation of LH's skill.

I neither like or dislike Hami, but you're jumping on the band wagon of an unproven commodity. Most of you Scots wear your heart on your sleeve, so objective you are not. I believe Hami has excellent skills, but he has also pulled some major boners, including throwing away the 2007 WDC. If he matures, he may become one of the great ones. But he is going to have to deliver multiple WDCs.

Archie Bunker has moved to So Cal now? C'mon, let's leave prejudice and bigotry where it belongs...among the ignorant. I'm not Scottish, but I think IanMac is spot on in his observation.

I see the more posts you have the smarter you are??? Who's really the one who thinks they know it all ?? If you read my posts and not just react to them, you would see that they are based on fact not opinion. Hamilton is indeed a good quick driver, but should not be elivated to the status of Senna or Schumacher, until he proves him self. One little cheating incident, and the guys stock would be devistated, and he would become just another foot note in the F1 record books. Lastly my comments were directed to one person who challenged my factual post with opinoin. If you are offended by my comments perhaps you are also blinded by the same opinion based, media hyped, love for Louis Hamilton......

gsjohnson.....you are well informed and make comments based on facts, not opinions, not so sure about the Scot thing though. Last week at Hockenhiem, LH let his driving do the talking, however last year in the gravel trap, he also let his driving do the talking.

You might want to take a look in the mirror as to who's ignorant. If you had done your homework on the Scots culture & history, you would find that my comment rings of the truth. Furthermore the comment was not slanderous or degrading in any manner. You defining bigotry and prejudice in correlation with my comments is ignorant in itself. I have a Scot and a Brit who both work for me that have been in this country for less than 10 years and we have routinely joked to each other over this very subject when we are all at the local pub after work. They are very proud and passionate people. Now if you choose to agree with him, as you have, than so be it. But to jump to his defense by mischaracterizing my statememnts is BS on your part.

Anytime you rely on sweeping generalizations to form an opinion about another person, that is prejudice, i.e. to PREJUDGE someone based on your pre-conceived notions of truth. The "some of my best friends are..." comment doesn't give you a free pass to paint everyone from that country with the same brush. Argue with a person based on their opinions, not their heritage. The fact that he shares the same view as others from a variety of countries makes the reference to his ethnicity baseless.

Dude! He didn't say "smarter" he said "more cred". Believe me, Mike has forgotten more "cred" than most on these boards will ever have...... It's something you earn over time - He has it, you don't (yet). And getting into a pi$$ing contest will do you no good.

    Sorry for the hijack,
    Cheers,
    Ian

Many multiple champions spent time maturing their driving before ending up in a good car at the right time. For a first year driver LH, even in a top car, the results and mistakes are hard to ignore. Definite talent and probably multiple championships if McL/Mercedes deliver the goods.

Very few delivered from the get-go, Clark, Fangio, MS, Senna did, Lauda, Prost and others took a few seasons, some Moss, Amon, Ronnie and JV Sr. had talent/speed but never achieved the wdc. Let's wait and see what history has to say....

I didn't read any bigotry into the post, but it is a sweeping generalisation that I don't recognise as being true. And even if we did 'wear our hearts on our sleeves' that wouldn't preclude us from being objective. In any event I'm Scottish and Lewis Hamilton is English - another sweeping generalisation is that the Scots hate the English. ;)

Uh-uh! Hope your flame suit is handy! :)

"Brits" = English, Welsh, Scots and N.Ireland.

The generalisation is therefore the English "hate" the Scottish, not the Brits........

Before you pretend to be authorotative on cultural issues, you should do a Venn diagram on the nationalities of your one "Scot" and other "Brit" friend.
