Hey guys, I've just ordered a blue FXX elite. Obviously I won't have the red wall tires but I do want black rims. I am a complete noob when it comes to painting models. Now this is a 70$ model, I don't wanna screw this up. What is the best way of coloring/painting them black? (step by step) Do I take the wheels off? Do I just take a sharpie to it? Do I paint it? Brush or spray? Matte or gloss? Please respond.

I was going to do that, but when I figured out the silver wheels are correct as well I just left it alone. I would just buy one more with the black wheels and swap'em but then again I'm kind of lazy lol.

To get the best results you should probably take them off the car and apart from the tyres and spray paint them with model paint. However the material that the wheels are made of and whether or not they are chrome plated or just painted silver will make a difference in the prep work to get a nice looking paint job.

Thats right, it would be faster to just swap wheels off one of the newer cars.

Otherwise you buy another one which has black wheels (that's what I did)

I used a Sharpie to make the rims black on my Hispano-Suiza HS21-GTS, turned out pretty good but it was too fat to get into the ends of the spokes

With the FXX it would be different though, I'd try it, saves the hassle of disassembling a $70 model

Don't try it with a sharpie (sorry Lotec) I did it to a Yellow one and it would not cover the wheel, plus when i gave up and had to paint it I had to sand the ink off the spot i tested.

If you are going to do this take the car apart and swap it with another.. its not hard at all and faster then taking everything apart just to paint it.

If you don't want to spend the money on a elite for the black wheels then you could get one of the non elite FXX and paint those wheels then swap them... its the same wheels minus the brakes... then just sand down the tire a little on the non fxx set of tires. I have pics of this if you want..

THANKS FOR THE HELP! I don't want to spend money on the super elite JUST for the tires, than what is the point of getting a regular Elite in the first place. I tried using matte black spray paint on a different car today (cheap 20$ maserati) and I liked it but it didn't come out just right which is when I decided maybe taking it to a shop would be better? Have any of you ever taken your model into a shop to get it done for you?

Try Ebay. I've seen black wheels for sale a few times. I assume the seller is making different versions with different wheels. I bought a second regular Elite version with black wheels and swapped them. Then I sold the spare one (a red one) with the silver wheels on. Not too expensive that way.

That's correct. HW only made the blue one with silver wheels. But I bought a second one (red) which did have the black wheels and exhanged them (which is fairly straightforward). Then I sold the red one with the silver wheels. I bought the decals on Ebay. It's a set for almost all versions/race numbers including the Schumacher version.
