It comes down to what you like...really. I really wanted a 308 GTSi but after researching the pros and cons (along with my better half's input) we purchased a F355 Spider (California Blue w/ Navy.) We searched for the best condition car available (verified with a PPI) that included all documentation, owner history, all original equipment (keys, remotes, tools, etc.) in a color that we liked. The F355 is a great driving car with enough modern conveniences to make it quite comfortable. The maintenance cost is a bit of a draw back but it comes with the territory. These are fantastic cars...do your research and deal with reputable people. And ask questions along the way. Ferrari Life has buyers guides available which are very useful. You can purchase them on Amazon and download instantly. Keep your eyes open! Good luck.

    Hi Paul,

For me it came down to the costs with ownership.

The 328 and 355 are both wonderful cars and represent great design benchmarks from their respective times.

I chose a 328 gts based on being able to afford a top condition car with money left over for a current major service and some for add-ons or needed repairs. I am very pleased with what I found for my money. I am not nervous about maintenance costs in the future with the 328 since I am starting off with a well maintained car that has just had a major with everything gone over. 328's are reputed to be very reliable and hardy.

After reading the many posts on the 355, I came away with the feeling that it was out of my budget to maintain. If I had the extra cash, I would have picked one up. But I didn't want to be "house poor" because of regular or unforseen maintenance.
I get the feeling that unforseen "stuff" happens more frequently with the 355. I know that if you find the right 355, you'll be in better shape right off the bat. Hard to get away from the heavenly exhaust note and hp on the 355. Maybe I'll have room for several f-cars in the coming years.

My mechanic has 2 308's and is selling one to pick up a 355. Best of both worlds.

    Good luck with your search.

    Robb

Black 328s do look great, but in Las Vegas? It'll be like a pizza oven inside! (Remember, even at their best, 328 air conditioners are mediocre.)

These are two totally different cars. The 328 is a great car. Classic looks. The 355 is a modern car. Don't get into an early one, though, they had several issues, and can be quite expensive to maintain, if you plan on driving it. Having owned a 96, I had problems with the emissions controls, exhaust, etc. Ultimately, if you get one that has been driven a bit, most of the problems will have been dealt with. The 328's performance isn't what you expect in a modern car. I'm sure it was quick in it's day, but that was 20+ years ago, and time has moved on. They make a very good conversation piece, but for serious, quick driving, they don't cut it in today's world. The 355 on the other hand is quick, reliable, and has great looks.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that the best Ferrari built is the last one they built. Get one as close to that last car as you can afford.

355 if you can swing the bat for all the reasons above. Performs as well as it looks. Get a 6MT.

328's are cheaper to maintain (so they say) but parts are getting scarce while the 355's takes much more (financially) effort to upkeep. My advice is to try to look in the future and calculate how much you'd want to spend on maintenance. They're both gorgeous cars and personally, I say go for the latest and best that you could afford.
