MARANELLO, Italy (AP) -- Formula One's 10 teams created an association Tuesday to safeguard their interests in response to rule changes proposed by motor sports' governing body.

Ferrari said in a statement that the meeting at its headquarters had produced a unanimous decision to establish a new "Formula 1 Teams Association."

The body will work with the Federation Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) "to agree upon regulations and commercial conditions which will provide a framework for a strong and dynamic sport."

The 10 F1 team principals decided to meet with the sport's main commercial rights holders after FIA president Max Mosley introduced a plan to decrease team budgets by 50 percent and improve fuel efficiency.

FIA plans to implement the measures by 2011 and has given the teams three months from the issue of the letter earlier this month to provide proposals or abide by the changes, which aim to make the sport more competitive, cheaper and greener.

Bernie Ecclestone, chief of Formula One Management, and Donald McKenzie, president of CVC Capital Investment, also attended the meeting. CVC is the principal shareholder of F1's commercial rights.

Next year, F1 will move to hybrid technology through KERS, an energy recovery system that will reduce carbon dioxide emissions.

Maybe they are fed up with Mosley's proposals and want to get rid of the FIA.

Piero stated earlier that KERS is stupid and a waste of time. That engines and technology and such is more important. Bernie said that Max would have F1 running lawn mower engines here soon if he has his choice.. My best guess is that the teams are going to tell Max and the FIA to go ..ck themselves and they are going to go build high tech cars to win and spend what they want on them. I also would look for Max to be out on his ... here soon..

Money talks, and the 10 teams have way more than the FIA and Max... Notice Bernie was there and Max wasn't.

I guess he was just on the other side of the street in the hotel, this time ladies with Italian uniforms. He was in a bit of a hurry, we all know how Italians in uniforms change sides at half time :D

@topic: The talks of the teams forming an own series have been going on for, like, 15 years? Only interesting thing is that Bernie's now with them. He's been their primary target over the last years, really looks like they want to get rid of Max now first...
