That's right, Carolina Motorsports park Kershaw SC will have the greatest race in America, the 24 Hours of LeMons. Our own CC Canada will race in this event with his sons...Who wants to corral Saturday or Sunday? Party begins Saturday night, over 80 entrees for this historic event.

    http://www.24hoursoflemons.com/

    Nasty. Brutish. Not Short Enough.
The crowd. The spectacle. The pall of blue smoke and roasted clutch discs. In all motorsport, no event captures the universal human need to whale on old crapcans and hoover down greasy barbecue like the 24 Hours of LeMons.

Each LeMons race is for cars purchased, fixed up, and track-prepped for a total of 500 dollars or less. But before reaching the grid, you'll have to survive trials like the Personal-Injury-Lawyer Anti-Slalom, the Marxist-Valet Parking Challenge, and the Wide Open Throttle Rodthrowapalooza. Twelve hours into the race, the car voted People’s Choice is called in and awarded a cash prize; simultaneously, the car voted People’s Curse is called in and summarily destroyed. At the end of 24 hours, a gala awards ceremony plies the survivors with trophies, plaques, and four-figure purses in canvas bags full of nickels. What's not to like?

When we won last year's Detroit race, we had no more than a dozen 'fans' in the stands. It's a lot more fun to drive than it is to watch.

The event is not well promoted to the public-that being said I don't think people will too worried about rubbing fenders, or blown motors. Should be a hoot-maybe even a fist fight or two....

I've already signed up for next year at Kershaw. We almost made it this year but didn't have time to "prepare" a car. Anyone know of a Ferrari we could use for less than $500? Kit car?

This thing still has me laughing today...I hope someone post some pictures. It was nuts...and I can assure you we will have a car in next year. They will be at CMP for two events.

I had to edit this, check this out, someone already has some video up on youtube..The first is of a car being crushed. On the second day, the drivers vote on the one car they wish to be destoyed, they are called in, and you see what happens. They were given 20 minutes to strip out what they can, saftey equipment, etc, they tried to take out the motor, which some said was a cheater motor (therefore the top vote getter) but they were unsuccessful!

hmmm this sounds like fun. I got an ole 2.0 Chevy Cavalier I bought a while back with 65k on it for 300 bucks. Bad part is I already fixed it up cosmetically and fixed the Temperature from not overheating. Maybe one day I might get it out and do this race. David, Jeremy, you up for being my co-drivers? I guess i'll have to read all the rules first though to see what is legal.

I might be in for that. My BMW buddy Bret Luter finished fifth overall and would have done better with some more reliability...

Know where we can get a Saturn for less then $500 runs good and its a manual needs some body work could be a good racer. Also have a shop that has pipe bender to build cage and just about anything else we may need. Just my 2 cents. I'm in..

Story here: People's Curse "winner" (yes, it was a SpecE30 race car that had been wrecked, they banged out the dents and took it to Lemons- they also drove like A-holes and pissed off a bunch of other drivers, so they got voted to have their car crushed.......)

Just out of curiosity , does Daniel still have his trusty ole Saturn ?? Or is that car worth too much for the Lemon race? It seemed like a great car but dunno if it would be approved for the race. I'd enter my ole 90 Dodge Caravan 2.5 turbo that I bought for $500 bucks a while back but ive kinda got future plans for it in a different race.

Sold it about a year ago... it would have been perfect! Except of course for the cracked front fender where I put a Timberland hiking boot once... :(

I was about to "bust" everyone on this thread for getting the weekend wrong and spelling "le Mans" wrong. Then I clicked to the site.

That was 15 minutes ago and I am showing everyone at work and laughing my ass off.
