later this year, Massachusetts will do away with emission testing OBD I cars '95 and older. I'm considering that a good time to eliminate my cats but was curious if I do that, will it cause any issues with the computer?

    Thanks!
    Michael

James, did you go with O2 simulators or reflash the ECU to avoid the CEL? Your's is a later year than 95, correct?

I am not totally sure what was done but mine is the 2.7 not the 5.2, the pipes that have been used have the holes and mounting points for the O2 sensors and i would guess as it is a 2.7 it should be fine. I will know more tomorrow. :)

I'd vote to keep cats, just go with high flows. Power change will be small, and you won't stink up the house warming it up.

Not unusual for Ferrari, don't these guys have a habit of getting confused on build numbers and dates? :) Mine is a 04/96 build and a 2.7. :) It was NZ delivered, i wonder if the fact it was a euro spec car has anything to do with this? Emission laws were not as strict here in 1996, not like in the US.

Picked my car up today, the pipes are the genuine Tubi items and look great (well made). The sound difference is very apparent and it is much louder, my car was already very loud and now its bordering on being silly, which i quite like. ;) Not sure if there has been much of a performance improvement as it was very wet on the drive home and i had my mother on board so spirited runs were limited to a quick squirt here and there.

I had you in the registry as a Feb. 96 build date? Is that incorrect? Your VIN indicates it was not a Euro spec car, it was built for the Austrailian market with RHD---But your engine code is correct for a 2.7 car..I can only guess that Ferrari had left over motors that were 2.7 and they used them up with early 96 cars because your car is quite early in sequence for 1996. Most other 96 cars were 5.2..

Agreed, using up the parts bin. I was not aware there were Aussie spec cars? That is cool, I need to double check my build date but I think you are correct on the 02/96 build, I was guessing from memory when I said 04/96 and was probably mistaken. I will confirm for you and get the photo of the sub (other thread) but its 1am here and my bed is calling........ :)

You're a legend, how do you decode the VIN to get that data?

There are sites out there that can break down the entire VIN, but with the registry I have memorized basically any varience in letters and numbers and can tell year, model, engine, country of origin, etc just by looking at it... I have my entire VIN memorized and can rattle it off just as quick as my phone number..:D
