Any time you can get over 200 Italian cars together on the grass with nice weather you are going to have a decent show. What's unfortunate IMO is that this show had all the elements to be the best in the world and at one time it may have been, at least for Italian cars. Disappointing to hear that nothing is set up or been done to get the site ready. The weather is always changing in Monterey, so who knows maybe it won't be too bad, but very person I have ever spoke to regarding the weather at this site talks about the wind

I am trying to stay optimistic as I am planning on going and hope to be surprised when I park my car on the green, er runway!

As far as the guys who want to promote Quail, well you can pay your big entrance free see a handful of nice cars and feel like you have had an experince, but you know what's missing? Everything that made the the early CI events what they were.

LOL. This is funny. 200 italian cars? I can go to a junk yard and find the same. Frankly seeing swarms and swarms of endless mundane 360s and 550s (I've entered before) is really pretty boring. Rarely do you find anything of interest (last year's isos were a rare treat). Best int he world is pretty subjective, but again how does this possibly compare to pebble for "best in the world" kind of stuff?

I'm not promoting Quail? In fact I'd be happy if no one went, because it would make getting tickets a little less hectic. But frankly the fact that they limit attendance (hence the price, frankly CI was hugely overpriced for what it is by comparison) works wonders. So what, pray tell, was "everything that made the early CI events what they were" ?? - my guess, little attendance and a few cars of similar interest. Oh wait, that's Quail.

Can someone tell me why they don't have a Submission Panel that determines if you get in at CI??

That alone would make it seem more prestigious.

Then maybe only allow one color of each model. For example, only ONE Red 360. One yellow. One Titanium. Etc. At least it would be cool to see those cars next to each other in their grouping. That would actually be interesting. Each entrant would have to submit a form stating why THEIR red Ferrari deserved "in". At least then, telling people you were "Selected" to participate, would be worth something by itself.

    A freaking Fiero.....

I'm still amused by best in the world. Pebble, Villa D'Este, etc. etc. Wow. Really. CI is like the palo alto concourse, but in monterey. Only they let farm animals in too.

Yes best in the world. At that time 90's to early 2000 there were no other Italian car shows of that size. Most of the repetition came after the Ferrari club was allowed to show. Now if you just like F cars I am sure there were shows that had more, but for a wide selection of all Italian sports cars this was the show.

I liked the show because not every car has to be perfect and you used to see a lot of interesting machine's. One year Shaughnessy drove a old transporter loaded with old unrestored Ferrari's It was great. In brief the show was for guys that like Italian cars, and not everything had to be red carpet or done the way that the prancing horse crowd demands.

If you don't like to walk from the parking area or you want to have lunch near your car paying to park in the corral area is a good choice, plus you get two entrance tickets. If the Fiero guy registered early he paid 150.00, better that paying $200.00 and walking.

I can't believe that they let a Fiero into the corral. I thought corral cars had to be special interest at least?

Limiting the numbers is not the answer. For me, aside from seeing rare examples of cars, the fun of CI was meeting the other owners and seeing all of the variations and condidtion of similar cars.

I was selected to be in the centerpiece one year. That was pretty cool. But that was at Quail Lodge. It's gone steadily down hill since it left Quail. They added motorcycles and boats and now airplanes to compensate. How about circus animals? Too bad, because it was a show that was really a gathering, rather than a competition, and that is what made it special. As I've said every year since 2004, I hope everyone who attends has a great time and I can't wait to hear how it went.

If the Fiero knew they'd be going early enough, it would be cheaper to buy the corral ticket at $100 (for car + 2 person) than it would have been for two standard tickets at $75ea.

dug up an old CI mailer from January:

    Standard Spectator Tickets
    • $75 through February
    • $85 March 1 through May 31

    Italian Automobiles, Boats or Motorcycles
    • $75 through February
    • $125 March 1 through May 31

    Non-Italian Vehicle
    • $100 through February
    • $150 March 1 through May 31

It's about money. When Wadsworth purchased the event he paid for the goodwill and I would guess that represents most of the cost. Who knows what that amount was, but he would have to make that amount back to just break even. I am sure the costs add up fast with Insurance, payroll, office costs, lawyer fees, rent of the site, city permits, security, fixture rentals , advertising, transportation etc. His site costs were probably cut in half moving to Marina.

It used to be about cars, now it's about cars, boats, motorcycles and airplanes and accourding to the ads Fashion, live Music, Food and Cocktails!

I have only 1 request for the Office Staff for CI.

    MIX UP THE CARS!!!!!

Accept for when you are honoring a certain Marque or Model. Let the Tarmac get some mixed color. Mix up the Marques. Mix evrything up. Cars, motorcycles, boats, planes, CIRCUS ANIMALS, Etc.

As much as I hate going to GOODGUYS events, At least they MIX UP THE CARS. I stopped going to their events a few years ago because of the rediculous amount of people and what they rape everyone who wants to get a space to sell. Also what they charge to get in. Yes it is WAY LESS than CI, but 1500 - 3000 cars in 1 place. What they charge for entry has to give them a huge profit. I know Alameda County doesn't charge a lot for the use of the place. Also, I love American Classics and Muscle Cars, but I just got bored to death.

Speaking of Prices Charged to hold an event. Marina probably gave them the Dead Facility for a very minimal Price. As much as I prefered the Golf Course, I kind of like the idea of having it at a somewhat abandoned airport. So an open mind would be great for everyone who actually does plan to attend.

I think people will be blown away by the quality of pre-1973 Ferrari and Porsche examples on Monday. Cal Spyders and 917's on Ocean Avenue. Tuesday will be just as fantastic with multi-marque cars.

In the "old days" of CI, there always were several classes of the vintage Ferrari's. When I was there last year, there were very few. it will be nice to see the vintage stuff again.

I will be showing at Carmel on Monday (Ferraris and Porsches only) and CI on Friday. Carmel is an excellent event (I went last year) and on Tue. they had all types of cars with very cool histories. Quite a few of the old cars were original owners. I still like seeing all the cars at CI including the corral cars. Last year there was a group of several Nobles. I also love motorcycles and boats and looking forward to seeing planes.

They had the Italian born plane last year also. It was a light sport aircraft made by Tecnam in Italy. After chatting with the salesman last year, I went up in it with him last September to test it out. I was impressed with the 4 cyl Rotax powered plane. But the healthy price tag stopped my enthusiasm, $80,000.00+ for a 2 place LSA. $120,000 with the full IFR package.

the 10th is the Ferrari Challenge and yes I'll be there in the hospitality tent.

as for the pre-73's you are right Sting168, but the Heritage section is for cars newer and they will be just off Ocean Ave. FYI
