Third qualifying was today. After pole swapping it was Pedro Lamy who secured the front position with the Labre Saleen. As I recall the 50 AF Corsa was 8th in GT 2. Didn't get to Spa until after 4pm today so didn't get out on circuit. Weather here is beautiful . . . Will be there for the duration of the 24 hours. Promises to be a great one.

at Vitaphone. Just had a quick email chat with Maik Hackler before he left, it's 24hrs of Spa and Maserati should clean house, even after they add 25kg's to the car to make the corvettes and others competitive:

One heck of a good race - VERY eventful to say the least. My iPhone battery had little life left on it so I couldn't really post today about some great racing.....so I am at the computer at the Sherataon at the Brussels Airport!.

First off the Saleen that took pole, never made the race - go to www.planetlemans.com then to the warm-up report prior to the race and lookat the photo and you'll understand what it wasn't on the grid - needless to say Radillion claimed it's share of victims this year. Then during the night hours Saturday there was the problems involving the corvette, Jet Alliance Aston - big fire, wrecked cars. This morning yet another car into the tire wall coming off the cicane (sp) by pit in - this time a Porsche - looked like the fire extinguisher blew itself up. Then the #6 Corvette coming into the pits and starting shooting flames from the hoold by the windshield then kaboom - there went the car. There's quite a crew from Vitaphone here in the restaurant/lounge area where I am. Great finish for them - 1-2 - coming across the line that way and the CR Scuderia F430's also came across the line together....everyone slowed down and took it easy in the closing minutes to avoid any unforseen circumstances and to not have to complete that many more additional laps,. The Lambo was fantastic the entire race - everyone driving did a surperb job including great driving from Tomas Enge. This was a true tes of endurance racing - in the last hour it rained, stopped and rained harder again so consequentally many cars were in and out the pits with tire changes. Got to hand ot tp tje GT3 guys who perserved with their Porsches and apparently roll after roll of white tape/red tape/black tape/ any tape to hold there cars back together didn't stop these guys from finishing the race - one a number 145 was really cool looking with all the bumper/quarter panel, wherever tape repairs were needed! Had a nice chat at the garage with Mika and Jaime - congrats guys on a great finish considering ya'll started from pit lane having blown an engine in qualifying. Third after 24 hours is noting to sneeeze atl'

Don't know if this race will ever make tv time for us here in the USA but assuming it doesn't then give www.fiagt.com for the main webiste and any further contacts necessary.

    Thanks,
    Carol

Yup, eventful indeed. I have great admiration for everyone involved in taking part in these 24 hour races. I realized at about 5:30 that this race was 1,5 hour under way and had just begun, where as a F1 GP would be near the finish! I was also stunned by the pace of the #50 AF Corse car. Starting from pitlane and within 45 minutes it was ahead of its sister car. Whoever took that first stint was driving like he was being chased by the devil himself! Of course I was rooting for this particular car, since I had a small meeting with Vilander, Bruni and Melo before the race. All really nice, down to earth guys. I would have loved to see them take the win, because that would mean Bruni would have won the 1000 km of Spa with Virgo Motorsports, Le Mans with Risi Competizione and the 24h of Spa with AF Corse. But a third place aint too shabby either!

During the night we saw the #5 being engulved by the flames right before our eyes. That made some nice pictures! Luckily Margaratis came away without injury.

Quite the spectacular! Congrats to the winners.

Great to see there was another person who enjoyed this event also. Yes, quite the excitement and great results. Got to hand it to the lower series guys who stuck it out through thick and thin even with all the tape in the world! We also visited for a few with Jaime and Milka - chatted briefly with Mika as he was headed up the elevator there - will be seeing those guys next weekend at Road America for a 4 hour ALMS race. Promises to be a good one. Time to call it quite as we have an early flight in the am to Frankfurt and then to DFW - thanks goodness our flights are are on "go list".

Again, great race and I have a bushel basket of photos and will be them started ASAP.

    Thanks,
    Carol

    Indeed a great race!
Good to see Vandepoele finish first this year in the MC 12! ;)
I was rooting for the 911 GT3 with nr 160 (one of the drivers is the son of my dad's cousin), they did quite well finishing 16th overall, 4th in their class G3.

    Hi guys!

I was at the race as well. I stayed at the track till 1Am on sunday. In the morning, around 9AM I went back to the track where I continued making photo's and watching the race. I really (!!!) enjoyed this. I will surely go back to this event again next year. It has really impressed me a lot.

Here are some images which I have made during the whole weekend.

Great stuff. Thanks for sharing. Other that dailysportscar.com, this is the only other place I've seen any coverage at all. Sounds like quite an eventful race to say the least. Certainly a badge of honor to finish this one - lots of bruised and battered cars.
