I really just wanted to try the new thread prefixes. Has anyone else attended the Saturday afternoon tastings at Rahr Brewery in Fort Worth? You buy a pint glass for $5 or a taller glass for $8, and you get it filled three times. Then you can bring it back the next time, as long as it's their glass, you get 3 free beers that Saturday. Plus they give you a tour of the brewing and bottling operation - The tour was relatively short but if you've ever wondered how beer is made. www.rahrbrewery.com No affiliation, blah blah, but I've been hearing about it for a year or two now, I even drove by it once on a saurday and didn't go inside because I didn't think there was anything going on in there... I went this Saturday and saw that there is DEFINITELY lots happening inside, I think it's become the place to be on Saturday Afternoon in FTW! There were probably 200 people there. Ran into a bunch of people I know. I know there's a pool party this weekend that conflicts but as it cools off this fall, it'll be worth a group visit! I realize our drinking team has a Ferrari problem, but there really isn't adequate Fcar parking, unless special arrangements were made with them to maybe park right inside their gates. I'll ask next time I go.
I haven't attended in a while but it is a great place to visit & meet with friends. Just one other excellent thing about living in the Panther City.
Post-Civil War reconstruction brought many disillusioned Confederates to Texas in search of jobs and new beginnings. Commerce grew along with the population. Yankees wanted meat, and Texas had a ready supply. During this time rumors grew of a panther that stalked and slept on the city streets at night. A Dallas newspaper ran a story claiming that Fort Worth was so drowsy, a panther was found sleeping on Main Street. Fort Worth citizens good-naturedly dubbed their hometown Panther City, and many local merchants and sports teams adopted the animal in their logos.
