Well after owning a 328gts along came my little daughter so daddy felt guilty about owning a 2 seater car! I sold up & purchased a fantastic porsche 993 cab... These are such good cars & I love them! However after 12 months 2 things hit me..

    1) I had only once used the rear seats & took my daughter out for a drive in the car!
    2) I missed owning a ferrari!!!

So I sold the 993 & was determined to purchase a newer ferrari. A 348 was the answer! Modern looking with a hint of old school & within my cash budget.. (I don't like finance)!

Any way after looking at several cars I finally found a cracking car which ticked all the boxes..(so i thought) I went off home to mull it over (as you do). But as by chance I spotted a 328gts parked up.. Suddenly the mind started ticking & the look of the 328 got me thinking.. What do I like about a ferrair?

I love the old school style..
I love the round tail lights...
I love the slim line delicate look...

Suddenly I started picking faults with the 348...

The rear lights & slats were not what I fell in love with..
The rear wheel arches hang well over the wheel..it looks odd?
    The wheels are so unattractive...
    The cars too fat!!!
Do I really want to pay the upkeep on a car that does not pull the heart strings?

So there you have it.. I now once again own an 87 328gts red/crema with 35k miles...

This one just might be a keeper!

    Bravo.

Oddly I had a 993 cab prior to getting my 328, and I knew the Porsche was the wrong choice from the moment I wired the funds. Eventually I parked it next to a 328 at a local car event over at Symbolic Motors and realized I liked my car less than almost anything else there. I put the car up for sale not too long afterward.

I take my kids in the Ferrari all the time. When I had my 911, I couldn't take any children, because the rear seat room was not sufficient behind me to fit a seat.

The 308/328 is the best looking car of all time IMO. If you weren't feeling it with the Porsche then yeah you made the perfect decision.

Did you make the right choice between the 348 and the 328? That depends on who you ask. The 348 fans will say no. The 328 fans will say yes. What it comes down to is this. Are you happy? If so, the answer is a resounding yes.

I sold my first 328 to get a 348 and regretted it pretty quick. I've made up for it since with two more 328's. Be glad you reached the same place by a shorter route than me!

    Best,

Great choice!!! Although I may be a bit biased since I also have a red/crema 328. Welcome back.

I owned a 996 911 for 7 years and never warmed up to the car. Certainly it was fast, capable, reliable, etc etc etc. But I never really liked it. It had no soul. Even though it was probably the best performing car I ever owned, I liked it the least and when I sold it, I didn't regret it for a second. Why did I buy it? My wife always liked Porsches and suggested I look at them when I was searching for a new sports car. I was impressed with its "compentency," so I bought it thinking I would really grow to love the car. Never happened.

You made a good choice! I'm picking up my "new" 328 GTS on Aug 18! I made a good choice too!

I must support Rosso328s post. Everyone has their opinions - and really, as "they" see those opinions, they're all valid and right. But, none of that matters - only what you think matters.

It sounds as though you've thought all of this through. It sounds as though you are happy with your decision. Only your's and your family's opinions count here - all others be cast to the winds!!@

Drive and be well & happy.......

    Cheers, Hank

i'll buy the blues brothers sunglasses at night...

But your mission should not include selling your (5th?) 328 unless it is for a better condition, lower miles version.! Hah

6th, actually. ;) I'm only selling this one so that I can put myself in position to someday get my first one back. That is, if he ever decides to sell it...

For me, it would be even easier to go from a 997 to a 328. The 997 is a very competent car, but I have no interest in any 911s beyond the 993s.

    Best regards,
    Dino

Wow only 3 weeks!!! I kept mine for just over the year!!!

Did you not enjoy the 993? or did you just miss owning a ferrari?

In an ideal world I would have a 993 for an every day car!!!! In fact I am working on it as we speak!

My brother has an 08 997 coupe. It's a thoroughly modern, mass-produced car, for all the good and bad that implies. The fit and finish are impeccable, and it has every computer-guided handling feature known to man. It looks great, goes fast, but doesn't scream for attention. I'd buy one.

But I think if you're going for a 328 now you've make a conscious decision to go old school exotic, for all the good and bad that implies. I see the 993 as a sort of parallel to the 328 in some ways -- the ultimate, most fully sorted version of a long and famous series of cars, but with some 1960s/70s quirkiness still in place. What came next (996 and 348/355) were major changes and in some ways transitional models. By the time you get to the 360/F430 and 997, it's like you've stepped into another universe -- gaining capabilities and leaving behind some of the dumb and some of the cool features of the older cars. I've been in a 360 Spider and then moments later back in my 328, and it's hard to make any intelligent comparisons.

I tend to view my daily driver as being on the modern side of that "wall", and I like the 328 because it's on the old side of the "wall". That's also why I like Boxers and Daytonas, as well as vintage Porsches. And of course Dino 246s... eternally cool.

Congrats on getting another 328. I know the '88 that I have is a keeper, most likely hand it down to my son when I can no longer drive a standard gearbox, by then I'll have a 575 F1, hello paddleshifts. Send some pics when you get a chance.
