As it says I I need the most cost effective (and safe) way to ship/transport a car to upstate NY from SoFlo- I was going to take the weekend off and drive the car up but with gas going up to NY (300-400) and then plane tickets back for myself and gf (about 600) thats about $1000 and i think i can ship for less than that ( at least i was hoping for )-

Any one have recommendations ? specific companies ?

Right now $1.10/mile for enclosed shipping is more or less the going rate. You can ship open for maybe .60 per mile but be aware; Most open shipping involves transferring the car. Every time I've done it the car was such a mess it wasn't worth the savings let alone delays.

Your best bet is getting lucky with someone running a trailer up with empty space.

You really do get what you pay for, cheap rates means the carrier can't afford higher insurance coverage in case of a problem

Ive got a friend that owns a car transport company that does nothing but FL to NY car hauling. PM me with what kind of car it is and I will see what he says rates would be and pass along his info to you if you're interested.

    Try the following:

    Exotic Car Transport
    Autobahn
    Horseless Carriage
    Fed Ex Passport

I am assuming that you're looking for enclosed shipping? If you're just looking for open carriers, there are many of them as well.

I think he wants to get it to NY in one piece, not like in the movie Gumball Rally

This year I paid about $1/mile from Sarasota to Foxboro MA with Intercity Lines.

Send a PM to Martin (Cavallino Motors) and see if he has something, I've seen him ask if anybody wanted an open spot on one of his trailers.

I got nothing going. In fact I had two cars come down and paid Exotic, also one north to NYC. Each of them was basically $1400.
Those are enlclosed rates. If you ship open the rate is probably somewhere at $800. I had one cheap one that did an old Porsche for $700 to Staten Island a month or so ago.

Coincidentally, I am looking for transport TO Florida. Relocating in September, and looking to ship from Monterey to Orlando. I have a quote from Horseless Carriage from a couple of months ago at $1,850, and another this week from Exotic Car transport for $2,500. I think I will give HC another call to see what their rate is with today's gas prices. In either case, both are below $1.00 per mile (but ECT not by much...)

...damn that is cheap! You are hard pressed to find an open carrier that cheap.

Enclosed and enclosed are different too. When we are talking enclosed we usually mean with a race car loading ramp and flat stacks inside the trailer. There are some companies that have regular open haulers that have vinyl sides. Those are more the open carrier but they are protected from the elements.

At the end of the day it is all about what you ship.

just shipping a frontier -thats going to my gf's dad -i was going to make a trip of it and go back home to NY for a few days but with work right now its just not possible. Ive gotten a few quotes between 1000-1400 so far for open trailer. I was going to autotrain it and drive from there but the schedule didnt work out ( i may consider holding off a little and still making a home visit out of it yet )
