Clearing CEL codes on my 1995 355

I did a search on "clearing codes 355" and could not find my answer for my 1995 355.

I found a good thread on reading CEL that was written for a 348. I found it mostly useful but there was a few differences after I had pulled three different codes: 4114, 1212 and 1211


"When the last codes have been pulled, you will get nothing but long flashes telling you that there are no more stored codes."

On my 355, after pulling several codes, the last code keep repeating.

The way he said to clear the codes is: "Now that all the codes have been pulled you will want to clear the ECU of the stored codes. When the ECU's is giving nothing but long flashes, you need to push and hold down the button for 10 seconds to clear out the old codes."

Since I never got the long flashes, I am not able to clear the codes.

What is the trick?

Removing the DMU relay on most cars will clear a code. The code will come back it just goes through a cycle.

I searched the this Forum and printed out some photos of the location of the OBDII connector under the dash. But I still am unable to find it on a 1997 F355 Spider that I am evaluating before buying. Could it have been relocated somewhere? The CEL is OFF and the bulb lights up during start-up, which should mean that there are no codes present to readout. Engine idles roughly but smooths out upon acceleration and cruise. The car's odo shows 28K miles and there is no History. I am suspicious that the Dealer or someone may have hid the connector to prevent me from observing the readout codes? But then the CEL would be ON not OFF. Correct?

 

I have heard about depressing some button on the ecu's to for a few seconds to clear codes...I have a 96 355 and have taken off the metal guards(?) by in the engine bay over the rear shock towers. I believe that I have located the ecu's on either side but dont see any button to depress. I may be making a complete fool of myself ...but where is the button at? do i have to open the ecu box up to expose this button? I would be very grateful if someone had a pic or something else to post on this clearing button. Thanks in advance for your help.

 

That is 1995 only (OBD1)

1996 needs two things, and then it very simple.
1) You need the wiring harness / OBD2 terminal updated. This is done by Ferrari, and is part of a recall. You can also do it yourself if you are handy.
2) You need a commercial OBD2 reader, search Fchat for what people like. This plugs into your OBD2 terminal under the dash and tells you the codes on a display.
