well, i think we are all fortunate enough to witness something thats probably not gonna happen again

 

Yep the man was and may still be a great F1, and i miss him driving for Ferrari. I would love to see him come out of retirement and race again especially against LH.
Though i still remember very well the dubious antics and name calling he attracted all through his F1 racing career. Like cheat, arrogant and unsportsmanlike. Yep the very same terms/descriptions used by folk to describe a certain F1 driver of today

F1 is in much better shape today, a 3-way battle last season down to the final lap of the final race, this season a 4-way battle for the title. Ferrari still a double champion.

I respect Schumacher's accomplishments (recognizing that so many of them came following the loss of Senna) but I certainly don't miss his absence.

 

Michael is one of a few sportsmen in history to rewrite what is possible! Not only does he have an outstanding natural talent, but he also has massive confidence and a huge ethic for working hard and leadership skills that inspire people around him to push 100%. I remember reading many years ago about Michaels 1st day at Ferrari. He was doing a test, in typical Michael style, he arrived early and over prepaired for his day of work, the Ferrari test team arrived late, unprepaired and disorganized, never again did that happen!

I really feel at the moment ferrari need a leader,someone to pull everyone together, and it seems to me that the person for the job is sitting on the pitwall (sometimes).

Records are made to be surpassed, and iam sure all of Michaels will be in my life time, maybe by someone already on the grid, but like Fangio, Clark and Senna before him, Michael moved the whole game on to a new level, and also put Ferrari back at the top which might be his single biggest achievement, and every single person on this board should be greatful for that!

 

I doubt that 7x World Drivers Championship will ever be eclipsed....at least not while F1 is a "motor" sport (maybe when their running hydrogen fueled gokarts). Look how long it took for someone to surpass Fangio

well, not only that. Fangio was the only one that won 3 WDCs in a row. Senna, Prost, and Lauda failed, and it took about 50 years, for someone call Schumacher to equal the 3 WDCs in a row, which he eventually made 5 in a row.

 

May I also add that this would be the case as long as sex deviant Max and Bernie have anything to do with it, one MS was enough.

 

Not even a comparison.....Mike was called a lot of the things he was because there were so many jealous of him that it was ridiculous. Many simply hated him because he was the best by far. If you were to talk to anyone around the team when Mike was there you will only here praise of the man. He brought Ferrari back from the dead. Even if Senna had still been around Mike would have eaten him up without a doubt. Now the guy many hate today is hated for many reasons and most of them because he is a complete fool.

 

I've gotta play the BS card on that one!...... I don't think *anyone*, ever, under any circumstances, would, "without a doubt, have eaten Senna up."

Sure, Michael would have beaten him on occasion, and vice versa on others. It's even possible (probable?) Ayrton would have taken a couple of WDC's away from him IMHO. The trouble is, unfortunately, we'll never know.

LOL! I'm glad I lived during a time where I got to see Villeneuve, Lauda, Prost, Senna, Mansell and Schumacher in person. The sport is indeed more exciting without Michael's dominance, but don't forget that he was integral to returning Ferrari to a position of glory. They were a borderline mess when he joined them.

Senna was the kind of driver who said that becoming second was only being first of the loosers. Senna was the kind of driver that kept his breath for a entire lap so that when he breathed again the blood in his body sircled faster and he could get higher reaction times.


Schumi was not slow, but Senna would never let anyone "eat him up" even if it was God in the driving seat.

 

Yeah so sad.....I hate having 3-4 people vying for the champioinship. pffft how stupid is that why can't F1 just be a cake walk for all of the greats?

 

Great stuff! Watching the Senna/Prost action, you can be sure nobody questioned team orders at McLaren then.

 

we will never know what would have happened if Senna was still around. he could get beaten, just like a younger gun call Alonso beat MS. or vice versa.

having said that, i think Senna was on the brink of retirement. when Prost retired, i think Senna just wanted to win more WDCs than Prost and call it a day.

 

Schumi is the greatest driver to have ever lived.

Others may have had potential...but he DID it.

The first section of your reply is EXACTLY the same as LH IMO. As for the second bit its all very well jumping on the "LH is a fool" bandwagon, but i am still to read how is he a complete fool.....How? Please tell me how he is more fool than anyone else. Which by the way i have also heard the same thing about MS, like when he deliberately ran into DH to try to stop his WC charge among other things.
Funny thing is that i truly feel that there will be a simular thread in another 10 years just like this about the Measure of LH.

All you need to do is look at Schumacher's performance while Senna was still alive.

The Williams was the car to have in the 1990s, can you imagine what achievements Williams would have had with Senna at the wheel? If they won so many GPs with Hill and JV, what would Senna have done? How many of Schumacher's victories and WDCs came by virtue of the absence of Senna?

Had Senna lived, Schumacher and the rest of F1 would still be chasing his records.

 

Its only a stupid comment for those that were and are Senna fanatics. It was also said by some that Senna would have retired in 97 anyway. The way he was going he might have won a few more races...maybe by then. MS was the better driver period.

And, to save you saying it again, his records certainly suggest that he was the "best ever", but as we've debated before here (ad-nauseum) it's impossible to compare drivers that didn't compete against each other.

Don't get me wrong, I'm a *huge* MS fan, but Ayrton was really, really special...... I was working in British F3 when he was running in the Formula Ford championship. FF races were (still are) notorious for being incredibly evenly matched - No one "ran away" from the field - Apart from Ayrton - If we weren't busy we'd take time to watch because even back then we *knew* we were watching a future WDC - He was simply head-and-shoulders above his peers.
