Dude, I dunno how you're living off 1k calories a day. Be careful man. Make sure to at least take some decent vitamins as I doubt you are getting enough nutrition from that little amount of food. Be patient and make sure to take the sustainable route.

As posted elsewhere. I had lap-band to help control the hunger, and am working out 5x week (3x lifting, 5x cardio)

I need to really focus to knock out the last 20-25 lbs, hope to have them gone by the end of the year. Still too soft to post shirtless pics. :)

    Amen. Damn!

Actually I'm impressed with all the pics here, especially (no offense) the guys who aren't 22 years old anymore.

Darth, as others said 1000cal a day is hardly subsistence levels. I would advise up it to 2000 (low carbs) and increase your run a little. At 1000 you are approaching a level where functions can slow and effect your mood and abilities. Plus it will effect your ability to repair the work out damage you are doing and normal body wear.

Marines in boot camp loose an avg of 25lbs over three months and we eat close to 10,000cals a day.

(You must have totally quit drinking to get to 1000-1200 cal a day! That would suck!!)

I have noticed it's much harder to maintain energy and have raised it a little. To be truthful, I was looking for a radical jump start and got it. Now I'm ramping up the KCals and exercise.

BTW, I remedied that one last weekend! :):):):):)

This tread may be the push I need. I am not over weight by anyones standards. 6' and 171 pounds as of 20 seconds ago. I have just lost my defination. Now I have NEVER worked out in the past. I do eat really well. I eat food that is really good for me not junk. BUT I just can't get into working out. I have never liked it and I don't know how to "get in the groove". MAybe you guys have some ideas on how to get motivated. I just had a physical and the doc said everything was good, BP was 125/70. She said I needed to cut down on salt. :(

It's all about wanting it. You have to want to work out, it sounds like you have the desire, just not motivation to get to the gym.

I can't really tell you how to "get in the groove." Talk to your wife/gf and see if they are interested in getting a membership. If not, ask a friend. If you're on your own go up to your local fitness club and talk to them, have them walk you around the place, and if you do join it might not be a bad idea to use their "offer" for a personal training the first few times to get you headed in the right direction.

I would suggest signing up at a place that is either close to home, or close to the office. Even better if it's close to both. If it's like a 24 Hour that are everywhere it should be easy to find. That way you have no excuse not to go.

For cutting down the salt, simply quite using it. It may seem things taste funny at first, but you should adjust quickly enough. Especially don't salt chicken, frozen especially. It's already loaded in salt. No need to add more.

I would suggest asking more questions (if you have them) in one of the other threads as to not take away from the original purpose of this thread.

As I found out the hard way* many moons ago, don't go completely salt-free and/or fat-free, as those two vitals are needed to regulate body.

*Lost 36 pounds in 27 days. Unintentionally. Trust me, going from 163 to 127 is no fun at all.

I just got sick of looking like I did. Was about to turn 40. I'm still on stage quite a bit (in front of younger peeps) and didn't want to look like their dad. The other thing is, once I started making a decent living again, I wanted to get into shape. Now in better shape than 95% of the people my age.

My gym is 2 minutes away...makes it very easy to get there.

Good time to make this point. For 95% of the people that want to work out but dont, the biggest obstacle to them is the distance to the gym. Pick one close. If you are driving 30 to it from either work or home, chances are you will quit going in a week.

The easiest way to get motivated is to go to Iraq. If that's not an option, find a woman who is in shape and become workout buddies. If you are married, get a mistress. Nothing will get your butt to the gym faster than a good looking woman. You'll lose your house, but you'll look awesome in divorce court.

PS. If your BP is normal, salt in moderation is OK.
