Yep, correct - and it is even based on an INDY-chassis!

    Hello all:

Well Doug does have the Frua, which was indeed based on an Indy but he ALSO has a QPI which was recently used in that Maserati North America email newsletter, along with his yellow Khamsin AM120US1046.

By the way I did not realize, being in Burgundy, that he is in Monterey this weekend so no likely answer from him until next week.

    Best regards,

    Marc

Your car 107.1424 looks to be the same color as my second sires car #107.1448, as seen here in my driveway and on a test drive up to the ski slopes. Do you have any photos of the interior? What color is the leather? This car has the S520 ZF with reverse to the right and back.

Just had 034 on the dyno this morning and got it really dialed in. the points were a mess, and accelerator jet on one side of one weber was clogged. It put out 163HP at the rear wheels! Photos coming.

    Hello all...

I also own a QP 1 (series II)... I will provide the number
and maybe even a picture in a day or so... Interesting,
I bought the car out of Baltimore, MD several years ago..
I had no intention whatsoever of restoring it... I was going
to use it as a parts supply for my Mexico...

Buttttt, after some time, the lines starting growing on me!
These are actually beautiful cars!!! Unique!!...Needless to
say, it is no longer considered a parts supplier!! Thank god,
    the Mexico has been reliable!

    Keep up the good work...

    Greetings all,
The confusion re the "tag" or body assembly number and the Maserati serial number, may come from the fact that the body was stamped and assembled by an outside company (can't find the name at the moment) and then, I think, was trimmed out by Vignale.
This procedure would leave many chances for the body to be out of sequence in the numbers. This is my understanding of how it went, but I am sure that Walter or someone much more knowledgeable than I, will correct me if I am wrong.
    Regards, Ian.

Today I accessed the Gas tanks on AM107.1448 to replace the LH sending unit and remove the bumper. Very straight forward, see photos.
FYI, the sending units have two spade connectors one for the fuel level, and one for the low level red warning light.

I will deliver the sending unit to MIE for a quality rebuild which takes about two weeks. During the reinstall of the bumper and sending unit we will clean the filters in the bottom of each tank and the bottom of the fuel pumps. While the tanks are removed this is the perfect time to clean the filters. Your fuel can never be to clean.
These tanks actually looked real good inside compared to those I've seen before.

Note the nasty dent in the solid stainless bumper. Do you think it can be removed and look as new?
    Tune in......

    Hi Frank,

I've just done this job on my Espada which has a similar setup except that it utilizes a single pump. There are some problems with how Lamborghini did their dual tanks so I'm wondering about how Maserati chose to do theirs. Do you have two independant tanks & pumps so that you must switch from one to the other or is there a crossover hose?

On the Espada the crossover hose is too small to allow for filling on just one side so you have to dance back and forth between the two tanks to get a maximum fill-up.

I've always wondered what the problem is with providing a much larger crossover?

Is there an unintended consequence from this?

Hey, Bobby me boy, off in the land of Espada.
The Mistral and I believe the Sebring (not sure) has a cross over pipe/hose and it is big enough to fill the one filler neck, albeit slowly.
The Qporte 107/Mexico/Ghibli/Indy etc has two independent tanks and pumps see photo below.
I see no reason (provided you have the room) why you couldn't install a larger hose.
Other option is to install two pumps and block off the tanks. But this is way over-engineered.
Sounds like a big hassle getting that $4.50 gal gas into the tank.
    Ciao,

    Greetings all,
I am some what confused as to the original colour for my car. From factory information the paint was Luci Di Mezzanotte Metallizato (106 E 47) I have been in contact with a well known owner, who has original Maserati paint chip samples, and his book shows a soft brown shade. Just today, I checked with a local paint supplier, and the only shade that DuPont have in 106 is some what yellow.
To compound matters, there is a later Blu Luci Di Mezzanotte Metallizato , that I know is Blue. (1996-2000 Maserati) and have seen pictures of a car so painted.
The conclusion that I have come to, is that the factory information is incorrect, as the car at present is a medium Blue metallic, with no indication of it ever having been anything other than blue. (It has been repainted at some time)
So what I am looking for, is confirmation of the shade of Luci Di Mezzanotte Metallizato (106 E 47)
    Kindest regards, Ian. (107-1202)

A litttle off topic but a Quattroporte none the less.

Here you can see a video of Maserati NA new CEO Marti Eulberg talking about the new Qport GTS

    <http://www.hulu.com/watch/32019/chictv-supercars-maserati-quattroporte-gt-s>

Did I hear her say Maserati reentered the US market in 2002 with the Quattroporte?
I thought they reentered with the Spyder in 2002, and then the coupe in 2003, followed by the Quattroporte in 2005.

Other than that she seems to be able to talk about the car with relative ease.

    Good luck Marti.
