My take on why the F355 is a sure future classic, if not already, that will only appreciate in value in the future.

First Mid engine Ferrari road car: Dino = Classic

308 GTB fiber glass, although first 8 cylinder, no big upgrade Dino was faster = no classic
308 Quattrovalvole GTSI, a big upgrade over 308 GTB = Classic
328 no big upgrade over 308 GTSI = no classic
Mondial the worst Ferrari look ever lame specs = no classic
348 no big upgrade over 328, looks like a Testarossa wannabe = no classic
F355 a huge upgrade over 348, a true Ferrari looks, 5 valve engine, 6 speed, Aerodynamics, sound, 0-60, top speed +++ = future classic
360 Modena no big upgrade over F355 and over 16,000 produced = no classic
F430 a huge upgrade over 360 Modena = future classic (unless they produce over 25,000 of them)

I'm pretty sure everyone agrees the F355 will be a classic. If they don't, they haven't driven one.

Gee, and I was actually looking for an Fchatter to buy a diamond from. Well guy, it won't be from you - as your totally insensitive comment regarding Mondials left me speechless. It's really OK to dislike anything, but to insult people who love the car that you find to be "the worst Ferrari look ever", and to do so on a public forum is a bit out of order. You really should have left 90% of your post, out of your post since you slammed a whole bunch of other models here as well. :(

But hey, cheers and drive your perfect future classic in good health.

    Hank

He did say it was "his take" and he is allowed his opinion on a public forum

Tell him his 355 is a piece of crap....Mondials rule :D

I don't think he really meant to insult Mondial owners specifically or 360 owners or 328 owners or 348 owners.....

Anyway..if we all loved the same car it wouldn't be any fun :D

The Mondial is a beautiful car but I agree that as far as Ferrari standards go it is the worst looking Ferrari. Not that that's a bad thing. It's like dating the ugliest playmate, you're still driving better than 99% of others on the road.

Guess I won't be getting your business either :(

That's my point, jm348. I wouldn't say his 355 was a piece of crap, especially to him - - even if I thought it was. And it's not about all of us having to love the same car, any more than if we all loved the same girl - (hell, I'll talk to all the rest:) I just didn't find his statements very classy so I responded. If you didn't find anything wrong with it - - that's cool too. Like you said, we can't all react to, approve of or disapprove of things in the same way or it would all be quite boring and predictable.

    Cheers, hank

You got to be kidding! When ferrari got the 308 right they called it a 328. When they fixed the 348 they made the 355 with crap valve guides/manifolds and same sticky interior. In my book that's a lateral move. What's classic about that??

Should be everyone's signature on FChat.

I like the 355 body style, second only to the timeless 308/328 among the V8s IMO, but I think all of the newer cars with digital displays, plastic steering wheels w/airbags, etc., are unlikely to be "classics". Frankly, even the 308/328 aren't regarded as "classic" by many serious collectors, and those were the last of the body-on-frame, computer-free, hand-finished cars before automation set in -- so they should have at least a passing claim.

But we'll have a long wait before the post-Daytona era production cars are anything more than pretty cars that sound good and are fun to drive.

As for the F430, 599, 612 and California -- I think ultimately they'll be as cherished as the 456 GTA is currently: technology time bombs that no one will want in the long run, unless Ferrari makes some serious changes to its spares strategy. We're seeing the tip of the iceberg now in TR and 328 switchgear where NOS is depleted or nearly so, and those are pretty low-tech cars. How will 355 Spider power top mechanisms fare in 2018? 355 F1 gearboxes? 599 magnetic suspensions? Superamerica photochromatic roof glass?

I am a big fan of all F-cars for their own characteristics. Especially ones from the 80's which is when I was in my teens growing up. Won't ever shake them. Love the mondial for its details. It was just as exciting to see in the eighties as the other cars, especially with the top down.

I also like the 348 and really like the 355 for all the good reasons mentioned above.

I actually think that they will all be classics given enough time. I know my 328 turns heads every where it goes along with all of these cars.

The only thing that makes me nervous is maintenance costs for the later cars in the future. There will be fewer on the road due to lack of care. Ours will be worth more and possibly viewed as more "classic" because of not seeing many like them at that time especially.

I have to agree with you about the look of the Mondial Spider, especially after looking at your car in the profile. I actually meant the Mondial coup. You've got to agree with me on this one!

(Now, will you buy a diamond from me? Please!!!)
