After skiing for the first time in 15 years (Which I had a blast!) three weeks ago, I picked up a ski boat today. The only thing I need to replace is the speakers that are mounted on the overhead. DANG! $200 - $400 (eBay)! WTF? I'm no high-end audio type that needs to have everyone on the lake dancing to my stereo, so what can I get away with? Would a pair at fifty bucks do the job or should I pony up and pop a few hundred? If so, why?

I'd look for all-weather speakers, like for a deck. Wiring is universal, and if they don't have to fit into a particular cutout, your options should be expanded.

these speakers are obnoxious and a nucance on the water. Take a boom-box - you'll be happier and so will your fella captains.

    all the best,

dear cheap pete, Im not sure if you have West Marine Stores out their in hooterville or not, but you can also shop on line there. I just bought a Sony marine stereo and 2 speakers included for 145 bucks. Also has a cd player.

ps. has a detachable face, so you can take it with you.

Nice purchase, Pete. Great Cheap entertainment that shouldn't cost more than about $100 per week of disposable funds.....

A marine store here? BWAAAAAAAAAAA! If you can't get your boating supplies at Wal-Mart, it's a 60 mile drive! I went cheaper than that today. Went for a pair of 'Acoustic 151' (whatever the hell they are). They look OK and were about $45 delivered / ebay. They will probably fall apart on the first wake I cross.......then I'll have detachable face speakers!

I wouldn't mount them on the tower, no need for that.

What kind of boat did you get?
