I know it's summer and I probably shouldn't care about snow (especially since i live in chicago), but I have the itch to hit the slopes....so, does anyone know where one might find decent skiing/boarding? A few years back I went to Barriloche, Argentina...it was just okay, so i'm not looking to go there again. I figured New Zealand might be my only choice, but it's so freaking far I'm not sure i care THAT much.

South America is your friend. Though I have never been.

I live in Oregon, Timberline is still open on Mt. Hood on the glacier, there was a terrain park and half pipe up two weeks ago still.

I've done Bariloche also. Great Town, but the mountain was not too challenging. I've also heard great things about Portillo, Chile. Supposedly the opposite of Bariloche (Great mountain, boring town). Good luck and have fun.

Ski Dubai has all the publicity, but there are other indoor ski areas:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indoor_ski_slope

A co-worker went to one in the UK. I always thought this might work in CA, except for the high land costs, high building costs, high electricity rates, liability insurance, environmental impact reports, workmans comp......... :(

    This sounds like fun:

"world's first indoor black diamond with a 31 percent grade is in the SnowFunPark in Wittenburg/Germany"

They close the glacier usually around the end of July

Also you can't compare Valle Nevado to a place like Ski Dubai, it's like choosing between and Enzo and Corolla.

You can find some nice spots in Aussie/New Zealand that are running right now. Theres also Las Lenas in Argentina, but why even bother when you can go to Valle Nevado. In case it's too much cash go stay at the Inca Lodge at Portillo, it usually runs $100 a day with everything included.

Lastly, I'm sure you can still find some heli drops in Alaska this time of year :)

When I was in highschool... I spent the summer skiing in Zermatt, CH (Switzerland). There were also random places throughout Austria, but nothing substantial.

I've skied the glaciers north of Turin in the summer and it's a fun day. I've also skied the Eiger in the summer but you need to go with a guide and be able to climb as it's a bit Extreme.
