I am sure that is one nice chunk of change for sure.....Probably set her for life---Depp is one of the highest paid actors right now---average movie deal is around $20mil.....

Good for them, they donated money to the daughter of a deceased multi-millionaire (who died overdosing on illegal drugs, I might add). Forget about those starving children in Africa, it's not as if they'll ever need the money.

That is good of them. What is sad though is that the people that did get his millions did not all get together to re do the will so she got something. When all parties agree, it is easy to "re write" a will. Esp if it benefits a child.

True, and it's more personal that they give it to someone's family that they might have known.
They somewhat inherited the role from her father, so I guess they are kind of giving the money to his next of kin.
Besides, when celebrities go a step further and adopt children of Africa, they get criticized for that as well. Damned if ya do, damned if ya don't! hah

they donated what they were paid to be in the Terry Gilliam film that Ledger started....they werent getting their rates nor anything close to it. They did it to help Gilliam out because the poor dude has the worst luck and to help Heaths daughter...but the amount isnt going to be more than a few million MAX...this was very low budget film. Doesnt make the gesture any less beautiful though.

i worked with Depp for 3 months on Ed Wood. Hes a 100% down to earth guy. Hes the model every celebrity should take after.

What I like about this story is that in life you are faced with different choices. Here several actors did what they thought was good and right. Personally, I agree, and I find it disturbing that someone could fault people for trying to do good. As stated earlier in the thread, I'm under the impression that Heath had an addiction problem to legally prescribed drugs. I think this type of drug overdose is due to these doctors over prescribing and it's always the same cocktail of Xanex and Vicodin.

I hope his daughter does well.

In regards to starving children in Africa.... There are children in Georgia, China, etc that are without their parents and are starving. I don't see what that has to do with a few actors doing a good deed.

Well, he was a drug abuser: “We have concluded that the manner of death is accident, resulting from the abuse of prescription medications.”

It is a nice gesture, and it would seem inappropriate if Ledger's family didn't receive at least some of the money, but doesn't it seem a bit "wrong" that they're giving several million to someone who's already wealthy? There must be people out there that could use the money more.

Does it seem a bit wrong? No, not at all....... They are doing a good deed and what they think is right with the money. There might be people out there that could use the money more, but I find it hard to be judgmental of people doing an honorable thing.

There must be people out there that could use the money more?? Johnny Depp, Jude Law, and Colin Farrell have probably paid enough in taxes during their lifetime to fund a large city for the next 50 years. So after they dish out 50% of their income (100% in this case), you think they should give another chunk of it to some people in Africa? Blah......

Seems that his will was writen before he had a baby and didn't mention her neither her mother. So, even if they're not exactly poor, the money should be welcome.

From my POV, it was a nice gesture.

FYI: As I mentioned above, the family got together and gave the whole estate to the little girl. Easy to do in a will as long as all parties agree.
