HAHAHAHAH come on amigo.. how does that not apply? since lamborghini have 2 models the gallardo (cheaper) and murci (more expensive) while ferrari 360/430 (cheaper) 599/enzo (more expensive) is there a cheaper ferrrari than the 430 to buy new?
Good point. I don't think it's so much the price tag that defines an economic model or not. For example, the Boxster was clearly marketed as an affordable Porsche not to mention both the 911 and the Boxster had a V6 which made it clearer which was was the lower model. Regarding the 360 or 430, there are no other Ferrari's with a V8. Yes, I realize the Murcielago has a V12 and the Gallardo a V10, but based on the way the Gallardo was introduced into the market, it seemed pretty transparent that it was to be the cheap Lambo, no?
It's a question of value for money... in the USA you can buy a 7-year old 360 Modena with lots of previous owners and dodgy history for the same price as a 4-year old Gallardo with one certified owner and 5,000 miles on the clock. Now, where's the best value-per-$? Power: Gallardo: 500HP / lots of torque Modena: 400HP / very weak on torque Handling: Gallardo: demonstrated to handle better than the Modena around any racetrack (C&D, R&T, plus many European magazine tests) Quality: At least on the same level Styling: Both gorgeous Age: Modena: 5-9 years old Gallardo: 1-4 years old Warranty: Gallardo: still available with extended warranty Modena: you have to be joking Quite frankly, on the US market I don't see ANY rational reason why I should buy a 360. They have to drop to well under $100K to represent any sort of value against a $120-130K Gallardo. But of course this is a purely rational argument, and we all know that these are emotional, irrational purchases...
Good considerations! But, seeing this car in my garage is the best part of getting up to go to work! 2900 miles so far. Had a scare with the check engine light but it turned out that the gas cap was not screwed back properly. TGIF! Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
that makes no sense... what did you expect the Gallardo to be, just another equal alternative for the murcielago, which just happens to be more affordable? Its design versus the Murcielago even suggests that it is the lower-end, cheaper alternative. And the Gallardo WAS introduced as the "baby lambo" or "Murcielago's little sister" .. wasnt it?? I think the 911 Carrera models are entry level, just by the way they depreciate (the Turbo and up, are non-entry level) . . You cant say a C2/4 is not, when you see hundreds of them on the roads. You can find a pre facelift 996 for $23,000(+/-) now, when they started out at 60-80k. The 993s hold their value fair well, but still depreciate like entry level cars do... Rather, Lamborghinis or Ferraris will almost always be high maintainence cars, despite how cheap you get one for.
"Rather, Lamborghinis or Ferraris will almost always be high maintainence cars, despite how cheap you get one for." My Lamborghini has not been a high maint car...a lot less than my 512 was...they may be more complex though when things do go wrong...
I slightly prefer my 360 Spider to the Gallardo Spyder. The 360 is significantly more roomy. We road trip in the 360 so the extra room is desirable. I like the look of both but slightly prefer the looks on the 360. Having said all of this I am car fickled and there may be a Gallardo in my not too distant future.
gotta tell ya.. I dunno what it is.. but being in a ferrari dealership and looking at the cars.. it's just HARD not to choose the 360 over the gallardo.. I mean they are just beautiful machines.. it's all passion as the gallardo IS the better value.. but that might just be enough to go that route.
When it comes to actually owning either car. Which is really worth the money for say 3-5 years of ownership? Is a person with a 360 more prone to worry about things breaking (belt) and high maintance costs compared to a Gallardo. If a CS was around $130K compared to a Gallardo I would definately go for the 360 CS. But CS go for close to $180K much more expensive compared to even a 06 Gallardo. I'm in the same boat as the topic creator
If we all drove/loved 360's it would be boring and same for gallardos Glad we have such great choices...friendly competition.....
I went with modena... the gallardo ended up being just too pedestrian to drive and own.. the ferrari.. well it feels a lot more exciting.. perhaps if it was between modena and murceilago, it would have been a tougher choice.. but no it was not.
Have had a 360, 430, Murcielago and now a CS. The CS is the best car hands down, with the Murci being second. Buy em both! Save your money and buy the CS - its a different car than the 360 and better looking than both the 360 AND Gallardo. Mark
congrats... its pedestrian just because its basically a German sports car.... (?) you dont need to justify your decisions, but thats not a good one (justification)... And a Murcielago is out of a 360's league. . . It would be dumb to persue a Murcielago if you only have the means for a 360. . .
Everyone has covered most areas not sure if the V8 baby Lambo has been brought up. Baby Gallardo is on its way around the same price of an early 360 with a V8, might be the alternative but it will have an Audi motor. The Modena is a wonderful car and its rear wheel drive and light. The Gallardo has alot to offer in a small package you can't go wrong. You can find a nice Modena for around 90K and I have seen a few early Gallardo's floating around 115k so its a 25k difference either way you go up or down in price. The Ferrari is 100% authentic, I can't say the same about the Gallardo but will say the Marcy is 100% authentic, not a bad thing by any means Audi has introduced some a remarkable car. Buy one drive it for a while then buy the other.
for reference: "Lamborghini is now a subsidiary of the German luxury car manufacturer, Audi AG, which is in turn a subsidiary of Volkswagen Group (Volkswagen Aktiengesellschaft) (VWAG)." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lamborghini You guys like veal schnitzel or veal parmesan? I have posted this in another thread, this vs. that. Lambo simply is becoming more of a German roots car. Back in countach and diable days, it was more exclusive. Dont get me wrong, I would drive any of them, but given the choice and the means to supplement that choice, F car wins. Lambo gets the looks from strangers more then F cars, but behind the wheel the F car is a true feeling that cannot be reproduced. Are you buying the car for attention or passion? Thats what should have been asked of you back in June. I am glad you decided in favor of the F car. Report back in 6 mos. and let us know how its going.
Pedestrian meaning the driving experience, not the car.. I like the car.. but from the drivers perspective it was a bit pedestrian.. the money was a non issue.. I paid for a modena what I would have paid for a low mileage gallardo.. the "feel" of the ferrari just won in the end.. I mentioned that a mucielago is a more exciting car than the gallardo.. and in that regard (in my opinion) it was more along the lines of the 360.. mroe expensive sure.. (but I do see some murcie's going for th 150's, which WOULD put it in SOME modena's price points)
I know what Mamovaka means. Having had both a Gallardo and 360, the 360 definitely feels more like a driver's car. The Gallardo felt heavier and less responsive, but that was to be expected with the 4wd. Then again, my 911tt felt like it drove better than the Gallardo too.
