Since the thread from last year is 60 pages I thought I would start a new one.
how about the preseason rankings? georgia #1, i'm surprised kansas is 14, i figured they'd be closer to 20 given the way they were blown out at the orange bowl.
How's about the Overated State University ranked #2 USA Today or #3 in the AP. After getting beat like a drum the past two years they shouldn't even be in the top 10.
The SEC has 6 of the top 25 in the USA Today Poll and 5 in the AP poll. The SEC Champion is the real National Champion.
I see Ohio State getting in the MNC game again. Gators have a lot of injuries and I don't think their defense has improved enough to win the SEC. I wouldn't be surprised to see Auburn win the SEC and get shafted out of the championship game again, hahahaha.
The thread title should be changed to SEC college football discussion. It is already off to a good start. I'm glad to see Georgia ranked #1, they have a great returning lineup. BT
Just to stir the pot, I predict that my Irish will break .500 this year and therefore be eligible for our Constitutionally guaranteed BCS bid - immediately following which, NBC will re-up our TV contract through the 2145 season for eleventy gabillion dollars.
Okay, I'll predict that my University of Miami Hurricanes will return to national prominence by breaking .500 for the season! BT
What 'Orange Bowl' did you watch? The one I viewed had Kansas defeating VTech! Such arrogance makes SEC fans so likable, indeed... Quite early to assess who is a shoe-in for the BCS National Championship game, but let's not forget about Southern Cal', West Virginia, Oklahoma, LSU, and even Missouri & Wisconsin. . .
sry, lol, it's been a long week, i've been making mistakes like this too often, with classes starting again it ain't getting better, next thing you know i'll be saying chase daniel is a trojan
keep in mind our season starts off with arguably the biggest game, against illinois, #20. if we win that one, we've got an easy schedule up through the nebraska game, and then things get interesting with oklahoma then texas the following 2 weeks
Titles aren't crowned in August... I'm feelin' that there will be a lot of improvement in the Big 12 & Pac 10 this season (in terms of numbers of teams highly ranked during the season). The SEC will be quite competitive overall, but lacking the few multiple elite teams of recent seasons. Big 10 will predictably be a 2-3 team conference, when it comes to national interest. ACC won't have many or any showing up on the radar. Big East, well West Virginia and another will go down to the end for the crown w/ the rest muddled in the middle. Just my analysis, nothin' more - nothin' less. Hence, why the games are played - not debated/predicted!
divisions like the big 12 are getting more attention this year due to the kind of years they had last year, ku had an out of the ordinary year, as did mizzou, and you still have the regulars of texas, oklahoma and nebraska in there as well. last year's major upsets in the rankings didn't hurt other teams from making it to the top 5 or 10 in rankings. it'd be interesting to see what happens this year if ku or mizzou can hold up to the hype and play the way everyone's predicting.
With the preseason rankings being what they are, I would agree that Ohio State will likely be in Miami in January. If they lose to USC, it seems to me that WV and Clemson have the easiest road to Miami. WV just has to beat Auburn in Morgantown, and Clemson's schedule is just as easy with the only real game being the ACC Championship. If they win the games they are supposed to (which is theoretically all of them), the national champion could come from the two weakest BCS conferences. I hate the thought of a playoff, but WV v. Clemson for all the marbles would push me over the edge. Not sure I see this happening. The way this years schedules have stacked up, I would expect a couple of undefeated teams at the end of the year, and not sure that anyone is surviving the SEC without a loss this year. Although if any SEC team is going to get screwed, it will be Auburn - See 1983 and 2004.
Why does USC always start at the top of the polls each year? Why don't they leave them at the bottom where they always end up?
OSU is going to get their heads handed to them in the Coliseum. I'm concerned Mizzou might lose the first game of the year against Illinois, but big game wins are what makes for BCS bids. After getting screwed out of a bid last year, I'm sure they want to redeem themselves.
i can't wait for the mizzou - illini game tomorrow night, my only regret is not having a ticket, we've got them, and then we've got 3 weeks of basically preseason games and then the real season starts
