It is getting dark in Sweden this time of year, after a summer with long bright nights. This made me use the headlamps for the first time this year and to my disappointment the left headlamp wouldn’t close completely.

Turning the headlamp on make both lamps pop up correctly, lights on and everything working as it should. But when turning off the light the left light only closes to about 90% leaving a small gap. When touching the pop up house and moving it slightly upwards it suddenly closes completely. It almost cut my finger off the first time I tried it, really painful :-( Can anyone explain what is happening? What could be the cause of this behavior? Read about a diod on the 348 forum, could that be the problem?

When it closes suddenly is it a free fall or can you hear/feel the motor or linkages moving?

Sounds like its sticking on part of the pivot mechanism, I would have a look (take the cover off from around the headlight if necessary) at the mechanism, maybe try some lube around the place and see if that helps.

I had the same problem. Don't ever drive your car in the rain. Little drops of rain can corrode the headlight motor parts. Open the front hood and very carefuly turn the top of the headlight motor.

I almost never ever drive the car in the rain, think I done it once and that was last year... What would you say is the problem, what would turning the top of the headlight motor do?

About the movement: the headlight doesnt fall back it snapps back, thats why I almost lost my finger... If I turn the headlight off again, the headlight goes all the way back down and then pops up in correct position.

I will take a look at it this weekend and see if I can figure something out.

Caution! before you go turning the manual knob remove both relays from the fuse box or you may loose fingers as stated. My guess is that the link bar that connects the motor to the pawl is loose and may have jump a little on the the motor shaft.

Managed to remove the motor today and found a corroded connection under all the gunk put on the connection points. Removed and cleaned the green/black wire and soldered it back, now everything works again. Guess eyboro was correct; the motor does not like rain ;-)
