Thought you might find this of interest:

Last week I bought a pair of the Califorian by Vitaloni mirrors from Evans Auto of OH.

Spoke with that Man himself. Great price, $127.00 + Shipping 3-day at $30.00

    Arrived well, no problems.

While installing to day, noticed very good likeness to the old ones with some subtle differences. If you're a purist like me, it “bugs.”

Hardware a little different, and the molded mark on the right picture is absent (Vitaloni logo mark).

Now the interesting part, while disassembling the old mirror, I noticed that instead of the machine screws provided, it appear there was mounted a plate behind the door skin as to aid the screws into the panel. Picture provided. The old screw holes may have reamed-out too much for the O.E. screws. Caution when unscrewing your existing

I suspect that this wasn’t original, but that it worthy of the post.

    Regards, Chris.

Very likely too big straight from the camera (and possibly other issues as well). First, download the photos to your computer, then use photo software (e.g. MS Office Picture Manager, or whatever), to reduce the size to around 200Kb or so. Then, resave the downsized files to the computer and upload those for F-chat. Piece of cake.

Go to Microsoft power Toys. Download “ImageResizer.exe” . A free app. That resizes pictures

    http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/D...powertoys.mspx

All you do is right click on any picture and select the size you want, small works fine for this site.

It stores a small copy in the same folder the picture came from.

you can use factory mirrors for the older Ducati motorcycles, and they are like $30.00 each. they are exactly the same. i have had a bunch of 308's and have done this on 2 cars.

My first formula ford had them stock because they were the cheapest mirrors they could find. $15.00 each retail.

    Hey Mike,

Was your set-up similar to this set-up where you had the bracket behind the door skin?

    That's how I found it.

Interesting that it looks as if it COULD have come from the factory that way (????), it doesn't look butchered, it was professionaly done....

I just wanted to give people "heads-up" that the included hardware might not be exact....

It turns out that I ended up not using the brand new mirrors, as they weren't exactly a mirror (no pun intended), image of the one replaced...

Anyone wand to buy a new set, the only thing missing is the gasket....

    Again, it's the purest thing.....

    Chris.

When was that? Apparently the Vitaloni factory had a fire and all those cheap Vitaloni mirrors suddenly got rare and expensive. I had Baby Turbos on my first car in 1986 because they were also $15 each. Now I'm looking for a Baby Turbo to match on my 308 and they are all $80+.

I got a right one and it was an EXACT match for the left side...except a mirror image..

Check back w/ Pegasus b/c they always have sales. I think I picked mine up for $30 and it even has the "california" stickers.

i saw sets some where with concave mirrors, if you guys find them let me know, they might even work!! My car had California from the dealer, which was replaced before sale during the series II factory authorised upgrade, and the PO put a matching one on the other side. Both have a pebble finish and raised logo, most other period ones i have seen though are smooth with a sticker???

Concave Californians are (apparently) avilable here: http://www.talbotco.com/vitaloni_mirros.html
But they are $80. The flip side is that all of their mirrors, even the flat ones, are $80. Perhaps since Pegasus sells the flat for $40 they can/will sell concave for $40?

And are Talbot's mirrors correct? I don't see the sticker or raised text. I don't think I'm that picky, but I know others are.
