Hello. This is technically my 3rd post, but my first post (and last) as an introduction. I thought I'd post an observation here in the North Central Region section since I live in the greater Cleveland area. As a little background: I've owned several Ferraris, currently own a 360 F1 Modena, and joined FCA in 1988. If you look at the photos from the Drive to Little Italy, you'll see my 360 (it was the only red 360 at the event). I've also owned 6 Porsche 911's and currently own a Porsche 993 Carrera S. I've been a PCA member for nearly 30 years. And I've owned more Birtish sports cars than I can count. I also held an SCCA National Competition Liscense for nearly 20 years and raced in many different classes including Production cars, Formula Ford and Formula Continental until a serious accident at Mid-Ohio ended my racing career in 1999. As you can see, I'm a dyed-in-the-wool sports car enthusiast and not some Ferrari troll trying to stir up trouble. But enough of the background. Back to my observation:

My first post was a "for sale" post for two rear Michelin Pilot Sports in the 360/430 forum. It's under the title "FS - Michelin Pilot Sports" in the 360 forum if you want to view it. I posted naively thinking offering nearly new tires at a give-away price would be acceptable. Afterall, who better to offer the tires to than a fellow 360/430 owner? Apparently I was wrong. I was immediately chastised along the lines of "not a good way to start....first post......unsubscribed" and "take it Ferrari ads". OK, I'll acknowledge I simply signed-up and have not subscribed, and at this point I won't be subscribing. I find several things interesting about the response to my for sale ad: 1) Being a newbie, I didn't realize it was such a faux paus to post a FS ad in a specific forum; I've since learned from Rob Lay that one has to be subscribed to post in the Ferrari Ad section. However I'm fairly certain I've seen other for sale posts in specific forums and I regularly see "WTB" posts in other forums. 2) I would have thought offering tires at a good price to fellow enthusiats would have been a good thing instead of a bad thing regardless if it's one's 1st or 1000th post. 3) Lastly, and I find this most revealing of a large segment of the Fchat community, I was lambasted by an individual who (according to his own profile) doesn't even own a Ferrari and has never owned a Ferrari......he owns a Jetta.

I've said my piece and will leave this forum now. Life is too short to worry about how I'm perceived in cyber-space and I seem to still be a member in good standing in the Ferrari Club of America.....so that's good enough for me. I'll see my fellow FCA members at the Fall Drive in Sept.

    Cheers.

    Dave G.

Now you gonna let person who owns a jetta and thinks he is a hallway monitor scare you away? You will get people who own small cars that have nothing to do with Ferraris that will always have their opinions on this board. I would stay....at least you got a real Ferrari. Just don't start showing pictures of your kid like you see on some car ads. LOL!

Because of the number of trolls that are on this site. A first post of anything for sale is generally thought as being a scam. If you live long enough on these threads-you'll see more than you would ever want of such things. And yes, I too have a hard time with post's that question your posts when they don't own a single piece worth mentioning. But that is unfortunately one of the few drawbacks of cyber-talk. A particular broker and his minions I find most embarassing to the sport posts incessantly on these threads. But there are many Good people as well and they will become obvious to you.
    JUST STAY AND ENJOY!!

I always love how some of these forum "police" have never, and are not even close to ever owning the cars that the forums represent.

    Hi David,

I think you should stay. I dont own a Ferrari, never have, love them....yes, appreciate them certainly. But Harry is right there will always be trolls out here. I enjoy the good people out here like Harry (carsinxs) who is a multi Ferrari owner. They appreciate any car someone may bring to the plate. Just respond to the good people and ignore the morons (or at least try) some of the morons deserve a good smack down every so often and its members like you that actually have fun toys that can provide a little witty commentary.

While not a Ferrari, here is my idea of exotic:

Yeah, a brand new user account offering a really low price for an item usually is a scam. Unfortunately you have edited your post so its hard to get a sense if it sounded like one.

You should try to introduce yourself as a first post. Putting in pictures of your ferrari will get you "street cred" quickly. And maybe as a second post ask where on this forum do you post things for sale.

Don't let a small forum faux pas get you wriled up. It sounds like you have a lot of experience and knowledge to add to the community, its a shame you want to quit because some poster was curt with you. It would be like you quitting the first lap of a race because somebody flipped you the bird as you passed him. Doesn't make sense.

Dave, I hope you stay long enough to read this reply. Cyberspace, much like real life covers the entire spectrum. You posted on the 360 thread, which probably has a very small sampling of people from the North Central region thread who "visit" there. I think you'll find that the people from the North Central region are a stand up group of individuals (Ferrari owners, and non-Ferrari owners). I hope you give these fellas a chance.

I used to be one of them, but recently moved to the Atlanta area, however, I still check back to see how my friends are doing.

I too have been "shot at", if you will, for posts that were considered inappropriate/useless/ignorant as I didn't use the search feature, or didn't subscribe to advertise on the FerrariAds, however, I realized that it wasn't a region or group doing it, it was a few individuals. I still read in sections that I found hostile, but generally don't post unless I'm sure that it won't incite negative critacism.

I have met a majority of the people who post in the North Central region (again, F-car owners, P-car owners, L-car - Lotus, Lamborghini, Lancia, VW owners, etc.) and found them to be an upstanding group of individuals. I have driven with them, broken bread with them, enjoyed a coctail or two with them, visited a car show or two with them, and I can tell you, they cover the spectrum too. Some are younger, some are older, some have Ferrari's, some do not, and you know what? It doesn't matter. We share similar interests, enjoy each other's company, and that is why I keep coming back to say hello.

No one can offend you or demean you unless you let them. I say forget the ignoramous who lashed out at you, and spend some time over in the North Central Region. Better yet, head out to one of the drives or track days so you can meet these people in person - there are several people in Ohio who regularly come out to events - and I am sure that you will feel welcomed with open arms, I'm confident that you will want to come back.

It takes all kinds to make up this world of ours, and you run into good and bad with everything you do. If you run into an ****** on the street while driving your car, you don't decide to stop driving. Don't let this incident run you away. There is far more good than bad going on around here, stick around to see for yourself.

And Proud to call people who post in this section my friends.

There are plenty of jerks and trolls on here. Some of the worst people have the highest post counts and some of the best have the lowest post counts. Unfortunately to some people lots of posts is more important than the fact that you're a Ferrari owner. Hope you stick around, at least in North Central. Most of the people in this section are great guys

Well put Mike. I too hope that you hang around Dave, we need more good folks like yourself on here!

  12. Your letting someone run you off of a great site because of that? Aw come on, you got yourself into the position & then pulled the trigger to buy a Ferrari & some other cool cars, and then would leave a site because of someone is mad you posted a for sale item wrongly? You should reconsider, you have a lot to offer this forum.

    Hi Harry,

We missed you at the meet today. I hope you were able to mend your fences at home. Hopefully you will be at the next one. I totally understand where your coming from. I am in the dog house today also. Not sure if I can mend that one or if it wont be repairable. Give me a call when you get a chance.

    Hello Dave,

I don't blame you for not sticking around. One should not have to deviate from his normal polite manner to try to fit in on a message board. You're not the first person like yourself to come here and get bashed or questioned. The fact that decent people who are well imbued into Ferrari ownership and community can't come into this forum and just be themselves without being harassed is an indicator of the overall nature of this place. There are some good people on here, but far too much riff raff, "internet police", drama queens, and people who are just looking for a confrontation, to make it worthwhile spending time here. The general lack of politeness on this forum overall is pretty sad. Were it not for this, I would be an enthusiastic "subscriber"; instead, I'm barely hanging on.

There are some very helpful people in the technical sections, a few truly top-notch standout members overall, and some nice people in the local/regional sections, and they make up for a lot of what else goes on here . . . but if you never come back to FerrariChat, you won't be missing anything!

Enjoy your cars in good company and good spirit!

    :)

    Hello Dave,

Just brush your shoulders off & register under a different name. Every internet forum I am a member of has frowned upon sale ads. You may be a great guy, but there are cyberspace fencers who do nothing but sign up to sell stuff. If this is not you, then don't take offense. Enjoy the company of the great people we have here - especially in the "North Central" area :)

I find FerrariChat to be the most civilized of all forums. For example, I got banned from another forum for replying to a rude post from a moderator...
