F40 brakes

Do you know what the condition of the rear brakes are??

Are they new?? Are they worn?

 

congrats on the purchase, i'm not an owner so won't give a useless opinion.

depending on the region you're in there are plenty of great people who can take a look. lots of owners do upgrade from the stock brake set up, but this also requires the addition of aftermarket wheels.

I'd try a new set of pads. Usually squeaky brakes are from glazed pads.

the original brakes are crap, the brakes on my chevy Tahoe were better

I upgraded to Brembo F50 brakes, now my car goes AND stops

put a couple of vigourous stops on the brakes when you first start out...a little heat in the pads usually stops the squeal.

The OE pads in F40 were the first pads from Ferrari that were non asbestos AND designed for very high heat. They squeel like an old bus. Was a huge problem and Ferrari North America "brought" in a bunch of asbestos pads and handed them out to us on a case by case basis to install, sans invoice, to resolve customer complaints.

In the years since many non asbestos compounds have been developed that do not have that problem.

Turn the rotors to remove any pad material transfer and install some carbon fiber pads taking the usual precautions to prevent squeeling.

 

How do you turn a rotor that is cross drilled?

 

Same as any other. A lathe is perfectly capable of cutting uneven surfaces. Making those surfaces even is one of its purposes. We cut drilled, slotted and floating all the time.

You can turn a square block of steel and make it into a ball on a lathe.
