ps, we need to remember to include the 208 gtb, gts, and turbo in the vin numbers run! Keith Bluemel has them as 208 gtb : 160 208 gts : 140 208 gtb turbo 437 208 gts turbo 250 "Original Ferrari V8" page 57. K. Bluemel 987 total for 208 i think my euro GTB QV will have a november 83 build date. i dont know as of yet. 44297
Hey, Michael - congratulations on your latest acquisition...! She looks fantastic...! I'm sure you won't be happy, but I'm absolutely ecstatic that I don't this car in my database - because now I do...! Sorry. I'm dying for information - a full report: VIN, mileage, history, assembly number, engine number, gearbox number - the whole nine. I think you can get a lot of what you (and I) want via the service manual. Right in the front page should be a sticker with the car's VIN and the car's engine number. On that same page should be the deliver to whom the car was delivered, as well as the original owner. The date of delivery is the date the warranty begins - and depending on the country to which it was delivered, you can get a really close estimate of the car's date of production. Just like the RHD cars, the Euro cars, the US cars - the 208s were all made specifically for the Italian market. So I think they'll most likely have a separate string of assembly numbers.

cool, my vin is ZFFLA12B000044297 BLU CHIARO 1983 308 GTB QV. sold new in Germany. i do not know the build month / date, or the assembly number. ( car is not here yet) car was imported through Canada around 1985. i have a huge pile of paperwork with the car i am still reading through! i will do a separate thread on it later, when it arrives.
Jdubbya, Love the new seats! Coloring the headrest detail to match is a great detail. What is mounted between the seats? The box with spiral lead connected.
Lol, I just looked at that after you mentioned it. Looks like a radar detector suctioned to the glass.
That's exactly what it is, a V1 mounted to the windshield. At first I thought he was asking about the old interior because a PO had mounted a stereo amp to the rear firewall right between the seats. Can't see it in the picture I posted but here's a shot of how it used to look. Image Unavailable, Please Login
No blame, do a search on the internet and you'll find that most Ferrari VIN explanation lists are inaccurate the same way.
Hi , I'm confused. Please explain i'm not sure i'm quite understanding this. Up to 1979 were the vins 5 digits , and after that 17 ? Must be, as from list showing 17 digit vin legend (starts at 1980 ): *** 10th digit = Is used to designate the year model for vehicles produced for the U.S. market. A = 1980 B = 1981 C = 1982 D = 1983 E = 1984 F = 1985 G = 1986 H = 1987 I = NOT USED J = 1988 K = 1989 L = 1990 M = 1991 N = 1992 O = NOT USED P = 1993 Q = NOT USED R = 1994 S = 1995 T = 1996 *** so then does that mean prior to 1980 you can have a GTB and a GTS with the SAME vin. number ? And your saying that US model 308's were not made US spec. by FERRARI ? (done by another co.? - who/where?) (that the month / year on tag in door jam was not put in by Ferrari ?) If so , how do you know when it was built. And why are all these owners including it in their info.- If all it is , is when the car was DOT/EPA converted ? And if so , how do you actually know when a model year changes by vin. number .If all people are going on is a certain month that you THINK changed model year . Not only how do you know for sure , and even if you have the correct month - how do you know what day in the month ? Does ferrari have a list of the first and last vin of each model each year? If so, please provide record of the first serial number 1978 GTB & first 1978 GTS ? thx
this thread is / was more for the numbers found on the QV's. the 17 digit vin system became a standard (law) in the USA in 1981. before that the vin's were shorter, with Ferrari and Lamborghini having very short vin sequences. the carb cars info in here is great ( i have had a few carb cars) but the info i posted is a guide for injected, post 1981 ferrari's.

That's correct, ratbox... Five digit VINs before that Law went in effect........sometimes you'll see them combined with the Frame Design number, I do that for insurance purposes F106AB *22127* But looking at the manual at the License Office they wanted it to say "308GTB22127"...the car had never been titled with anything but 22127 so they did a variance and plugged it in that way, now every year I explain it's a vintage Ferrari not a Farm Implement Trailer.... Now back to our QV thread......LOL!
i thought i added a pic.... notice how its also body / paint color. mine is blu scuro ! Image Unavailable, Please Login
For the record the number is 381. I found that number also on the inside of the drivers door panel. Sorry for any inconvenience.
Serial number: ZFFUA13A3F0054573 Model year: 1985 Date of manufacture: November 5, 1984 Sequence number: 241 Engine number: 806 I've sent more details on the chain of ownership to Wade's QV register. Jeff
Another update, another bump of the thread. http://koti.welho.com/kpietil4/308.htm Please check the data of your car. Owners of US cars: please report the production date AS STAMPED ON THE DOOR JAMB PLATE. It is easy getting this info on all US cars, so the data also shows clear pattern. I would also want to know for all cars if they have a 5-digit serial number or a full VIN code. This information is a great help when trying to put a car into a correct category. Best wishes, kare
