I just got my 599 and found out the Equlaiser which includes the bass, trebel ...etc is not their because I have chosen the Bose Hi Fi System. I am kinda confused as I thought the Bose Hi Fi should be the best sound system option available on the 599 ... is that right?

You can turn off the BOSE setting then you can get control and do the bass and treble function. I was in a 599 with bose that I adj the bass.

In the TFT menu there is a setting for auto equalizer- turn this off. The auto eq tries to flatten the sound. This might be preferable in a home but in a moving vehicle you want to push the bass a little bit at a minimum. My 599 (May 2007 build) does not give the option to control bass or treble. It is the only thing about the car that I am disappointed with. You can counter this a little bit with the ipod. On your ipod, you can select the bass boost setting in the eq settings menu. The ipod plugs in to your car using its analog line out which will be affected by the ipod eq setting. This is not the optimal way of tweaking sound but its the only option thats available to those of us in this position. The resulting sound will have adequate bass but the truth is the radio in the 599 should be better than it is. Rap and bass heavy music will not work well with this setting- it will become distorted sounding. Its not the speakers, its bass booster- its too much- its designed for source material that is light in bass. If you were to try to put the bose radio equalizer back on, the radio would fight the boosted bass- so keep it off.

Now, I was recently with another 599 owner at the Ferrari DE in Canada- great time and program btw- and he insisted that there is either a new software or module for the car that will allow you to control the bass and treble and actually get pretty good sound. And that is all I am after- yes, of course, the real sound is the engine and exhaust sound. The car is fantastic. But the nice thing about the 599 is that you can drive it how ever you are feeling and sometimes its nice to just cruise down the road and for that, putting on some music is nice and the sound does not have to be audiophile, but it should be solid. I keep forgetting to check with the dealer if there is such an update, but if it does exist it would be most welcome and I will have it installed as soon as I can.

    best regards,
    Jerry

Hi, Thanks for the input ... when I turn the auti equlaiser off, what will happen?

The strange this is, I had MY07 F430 with BOSE system and I used to enjoy all the features but honustly the quality sound of the 599 is still better.

Is the Bose Hi Fi the best sound option for the 599? or their is another better one?

Whats the build date on your 599? It possible they made improvements to it. My 430 has the hi fi system but I dont think its Bose. I find the 430 sound quality is much better and its tunable. If you have the setup with the subwoofer, a little trick on the 430 is to use the fader- set it a few notches to the rear as that is really just sending more signal to the subwoofer. I am not a bass heavy fan but you need to do this for an automobile.

In the 599, if you turn the auto eq off it will simply let the sound play. With it on, the system uses a built in microphone and it tries to re-equalize the sound to keep it to what seems to me as flat as possible.

    best regards,
    Jerry

Perhaps in the year since my car was built they improved the sound quality? They do make running improvements...

My car was built last month; I took delivery yesterday. I, too, ordered the Bose system and the only thing adjustable in terms of sound quality is balance and fade.

Here are the pics from my 599 Radio with Bose, Nav, and Bluetooth.

Have your IPOD on in the car. Then click on Media 2 times and you get SOUND. Click on SOUND and you get all the options. This is the best I could do with my phone in the car, to much clear. From the factory is is not very good at all. So you have to change all the settings. I turn loudness up to #2, subwoover around #3, turn on Ferrar sound, i did a custom EQ sort of like ROCK, then messed with the crossover so the small speakers dont have to reproduce low sounds. I also adj the subwoofer crossover so it does not go abouve 110HZ. I also made sure to TURN OFF my EQ on my I POD. Since I made all the adj on the stereo.

    Thanks Dave

That's interesting. When I do the identical thing, the only things that come up in the Sound menu are Balance/Fader and Reset Settings.

Consider yourself fortunate. Sfumato has the identical issue with his car that I have with mine.

And I know it's not an update because my car has a newer chassis number than yours.

Italian logic at its finest :)

Well then print out what i showed you and go to your dealer. There is no reason this cant be turned on. It is a major diff with the settings messed with.

I test drove a 599 around Feb this year with BOSE and it also had the settings like my car.

I think that must indicate there's a newer version of the system software than was installed in my car. My System CD is version 3.7. Do you have a newer version?

I just spent 30' with system CD and did a reset. Turned off Auto Eq. on TFT as well, restarted car. Best I can tell, you don't have Bose, or yours isn't working. gary tried same. I'm on new radio, wouldn't recognize iPod regularly, so this radio is about a month old. Systemware is 3.7.

Well it says BOSE on the center speaker. On my window sticker it says BOSE HI FI $3328.00 and has the big subwoofer in the back deck. If my is not working then I prey to god they never fix it becuase it sounds so good and I have full control over it.

Interesting. My head unit sometimes doesn't recognize the iPod so I have to go into the menu structure and "Connect iPod." I just assumed it was some quirk of the design. How can they put such junk in an otherwise amazing car?

I would truly love to hear a unit that doesn't have the Bose "upgrade;" I think it was $3300 flushed down the toilet.

I have to connect it eveytime i plug it in. But it alwasy works if already plugged in and I turn on the car.

Yeah if you cant make adj to sound it does not sound good at all. But after you adj everything it is really great sounding system.

I e-mailed Bose technical support about this. I'm certain it was a waste of time on my part but at least it wasn't much time ;)

I have been working on an audio system upgrade on a 599 for@ 2.5 weeks and we are keeping the stock becker radio in the system and we were looking for a bass + treble control or an eq.... If you push the 2 buttons above the 2 knobs along with the lower right button below the right knob all at the same time then this will put you into a hidden menu and you can select the bose option and then you need your radio code and you enter it this will then allow you to access in the sound menu an equalizer that has preset curves and 4 user setable curves.... Not bass + treble but better....
