Hello to all, yep, bought Bill' 400A vin 23613. Bill did a lot of work to the car, especially to the suspension. It rides/handles quite nicely. There are numerous small things to deal with , but am looking forward to resolving these and focusing on reliability.

Awesome cars actually, new to automatics and the three speed seems a bit of a compromise, but would be interested in any mods to the TH400. Pretty much going to tak ethe time to really go over the car to assess and make the priority list.

Any sources for heater valves? I have focused on and located an alternate source for the electrical portion of the ignition switch from Neiman. Cost should be under $100.00, and is OE. I will follow up.

Thanks and I look forward to being a contributing member, and know I will need info assistance along the way.

    Godspeed!
    Dave

I'll be waiting for that. I know 2 guys who need the electronic part of the ignition switch as we speak.

Here is the deal on the black ignition switch module..this was used in every BMW and MB from 1970 onward..they are available over the counter all day long $100USD at most german parts houses..common as fish eggs..bought two from OEM Parts.com (California)..I can't find my info but I'll look again..I've posted this about ten times on various forums..try TR form just last week..also..I also showed an 400 owner in Ohio where to find these..when you do find this part..BUY 2!!..you know that you'll need it down the line..Also..I by-passed my switch entirely.with a box stock good generic American switch that I mounted into the console..by removeing the dummy gen. light plug... I still have the use of the steering lock and my car remains "stock" and I don't have to dick with putting my hand through the steering wheel to TRY to start my car..no more broken keys..info on that solution later.. did this many Moons ago and am glad that I did..this is NOT rocket science..All the best and I hope this helps..Jacques

Jeesh! I guess if we'd just used the search feature we'd have found this easy! What a bunch of morons! :D
Thanks Jacques. Get us a part # if you find it since obviously we're too lazy to go look for it ourselves.

Had my tranny out of my 1980 400i a few years back..at the best local shop in the area..GM spoken here..this tranny is box stock inside..this is the same tranny that Rolls Royce, MB, Olds, Buick and GM pick'um up trucks used in that era..remember..the T400 was designed for the trucks FIRST, so this unit is STRONG..I had the shop replace any worn or broken parts..now dig this..then we put a MEDIUM shift kit in(your Choice)..now it takes off like a stick ,shifts more positively, and over all..has more authority..picked up AT LEAST2-3 mpg..total in and out cost...$850USD...most shops include the r&r in the re-build as it must come out anyhoo..saves you and them a ton of $$$..and.if you have the courtesy to schedule in advance..1-2 day turn-around..why bother doing this yourself and give up so much skin (and weeks) ...also use the normal tranny fluid..NO ADDITIVES...and your gonna love life..NOW..I need something..one 400i F-chatter recently secured a total suspension bushing package..I would LOVE to get the spec for each of the bushings and I just might be able to get a group buy for a lot less than "original"..remember that Ferrari built absolutley nothing on these cars except the engine and tranny mouldings..from there it was off the the international parts bins..again..you don't have to be a Rhodes Scholar to keep these cars on the road.."Let your fingers do the walking" Happy trails, "Men of the West"..Jacques..whew..
